Not sure exactly where you are but Community Memorial Hosp in Menomonee Falls has a group that meets once a month.  Don't have the exact dates but if you go to their website and search for the bariatric info it should be there.  You might want to check out the State Forums for Wisconsin and post a note there.  Maybe someone there would have info.

Good Luck to you as well Suzanne.  Hope all goes well.  Do you or will you be going to a Support Group in the area?  I will be thinking of you on 1/26 and look forward to hearing how you are doing.  Please keep in touch if you need someone who can truly emphathize with your journey let me know, maybe we can hold eachother's hand seeing how we live in the same basic area.

I'm having RNY at Froedert with Dr. Wallace from Medical College. 1/26/10. Three months ago seemed like forever, but now it is almost here. Good luck!

i'm like 99.99% sure that you can attend the dr chua support group.  i know of at least one guy that went to another surgeon that goes there.  its really got nothing to do with chua as it is run by the nutritionist that works at the hospital  her email is [email protected]  give her an email and ask.  oh there was one other person who moved from out of state too but i don't know what happened to her.  i usually attend but i'm about to start a wendsday night class for the next 8 weeks so i won't be there.  they are either the third or fourth wendsday of the month i forgot which one.

I moved here from ND several months ago, not that there was a support group up there for me, but heck, the entire state's population is less than the CITY (not county) of Milwaukee, so that was no big surprise.  The one support group up there has the same policy that I've found here.  I called numerous bariatric programs to ask about support groups & was consistently told that you could only attend if you've been through there program.  I had my surgery overseas & while I knew this was a possibility, I figure there's nothing to be lost in reaching out to see if support is possible all the same.

Soooo, are there any support groups that are simply open to people who have had WLS?  Where you haven't been through a specific program?

Aside from one person (if you're reading this, Jewel - hi there!), in WI, I haven't seen anyone else on the duodenal switch board from WI.  Are there are any others out there?  Would anyone like to meet for coffee sometime - no matter what surgery you got!!!  The effects that losing massive amounts of weight have got to be the same no matter how you got there.  Having someone else to talk to who can relate would be great.

Thanks all~

Met with Dr. Prewitt in Menomonee Falls yesterday along with my husband.  Liked him and his staff very much.  After discussing my options along with my weight related medical history decided on the RNY.  Today I am excited, yesterday I was so nervous my blood pressure was up up up.  Now the checklist of things that I need to get done prior to sending off to my insurance for approval.  Was told it could be 3 months if all else goes well.

Topic: Anyone interested in a Kenosha support group?
With hubby on active duty and 2 school-agers at home, it's a bit tough for me to make Milwaukee meetings, much as I'd dearly love to go to them and be with you all up there.
I was wondering if folks in the Kenosha/Racine/Lake Geneva/Zion, IL areas would be interested in starting a Kenosha 'branch' of the Milwaukee support group, designed to coordinate with the Milwaukee group for those wanting to participate there as well.  If there's sufficient interest, I'll see if we can get room at Aurora or St. Cat's, or even one of the libraries' meeting rooms.  Feel free to post here or PM me.

Thanks!

Welcome to the Wisconsin and Obesity help forums!!!
It can be a long journey (8 months for me), but it is so worth it.  I managed to lose weight even during the Christmas holidays!

Topic: RE: Does anybody have a good source for vitamins?
Give Deanna or Kimberly a call--they'll be able to give you some good calcium recommendations, too.  Deanna double checked the OptiSource for me to make sure I wasn't getting too much iron as a bandster, so I know they have a lot of info on vitamins.  I've seen chewable calcium citrate tablets at Walmart and Walgreens, including in the generic version which costs less.
