Topic: RE: Bariatric Seminar in Sheboygan!
I have lost over 140 pounds since the removal of my lap band in 2006.  I did not have additional WLS, but then with the extreme weight loss I was no longer a candidate.  The weight loss came, of course, from malnutrition.  As Of today I cannot eat solid foods (I sometimes eat pasta, eggs or soups, etc.).  I primarily drink shakes that is provided by my physician's office.  It used to be bothersome, but it really isn't anymore.  I really don't miss eating and I really am never hungry.  With that goes a lot of other problems though because I am constantly dehydrated, I have severely low potassium levels, I have anemia, I have absorption problems, I am severely constipated, I have had countless surgeries for intestinal hernia repairs and the list goes on and on.  Don't take my situation as a reason not to proceed with WLS.  You should proceed with WLS if that is what you want.  Just check out the surgeon.  If you are going to Dr Chua you are in very good hands and I can assure you with a high amount of certainty that you will not have problems.  Also, it depends on the surgeon's ethical standards.  Dr Chub has a reputation for being very ethical and professional.  Wasco does not.  Interestingly, after all of this I would have felt resolution if Wasco would have just agreed to meet with my husband and I and let him know what devastation he caused not only an individual, but an entire family.  My Husband received an e-mail from Dr Robin Wilson, VP of Medical affairs at ThedaCare in which he wrote, " I have spoken to him (Kevin Wasco) and he feels he has devoted enough time to this patient".  Dr Wilson went on to state that he was hoping that intelligence would prevail, but it had not.  Wouldn't it have been easier to just let us vent our feelings and then in someway validate those feelings?  We never asked for any more.  I think you will do great.  You have a great surgeon who has a great program in place.  His patients rave about his kindness, empathy, consideration as well as his surgical skills.  You have nothing to worry about.  Please keep me posted.  I love to hear about success stories.

I'm feeling very confident with my choice of Dr. Chua. I have my pysch and nut consult Sept 16th so it's now starting to feel 'real'....this is really going to happen!!

Sorry to hear about your disasters. Yeah, I can't say what it was that I didn't like about Dr. Wasco, but I just got the crawly skin feeling. I hope you are doing well. Did you end up with some other type of WLS? Have you been able to lose weight now? How has your journey been?

Thanks...take care

I'm glad you didn't follow through with your surgery with Wasco.  Thankfully you have a better intuition than I do.  I had an experience comparable to the poster listed above, except mine was with Kevin Wasco.  After I had to have my lap band removed by emergency surgery in 2006, I have had approximately 9 surgeries since.  All except one have been in an attempt to "clean up Wasco's mess".  When I went through the entire administrative staff at ThedaCare they told me that he is an "independent that they cannot police".  They said they would take action if they just said one more complaint, all the while knowing that they had one other huge complaint.  Don't believe it?  Ask the family of Vicki Nicholas?  You see, you will have to ask the family because Vicki is in the cemetery in Berlin, Wis.  Need I say any more? Unfortunate, yes.  SHAMEFUL, ABSOLUTELY!!!!

Post-op is sort of a process. While there are some similarities, people have different results as to what works for them.
First off, follow the guidelines your medical team gives you. We are fortunate to not be FIRST in this process. The doctors have come up with a roadmap for you.  Basically, tyou are starting with a very small pouch and a swollen opening. It will take several months before it all heals. They have an increasing type and quantity of food along that journey.
Do not go too far astray, as if you add in wrong food types or eating patterns, you can kill your success. There is no reason to go through this whole ordeal of body change and NOT be successful.
Find a group of people that meet a couple of times a month to discuss issues and encourage each other. It will make a world of difference.
Always eat protein first. You will also find that some things that are good for you are harder to eat than some things that are kinder to your new pouch.
I have eaten a lot of chili and refried beans. I love wendy's chili, and I do eat the insides of a burrito from Taco Bell. I can eat ground beef, but have difficulty with pork and chicken brest. Some people like tuna with a bit of mayo, It doesn't work for me. And on and on it goes.

No matter which procedure you have, Support meetings will help you stay focused and learn lifestyle changes from others. I knew going in that even the RNY is a diet and exercise program.
I met a Lap-bander from New Jersey that has lost over 145 pounds. It is a different procedure, but the details of dieting remain the same.

Midwest Bariatric Center/Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah! They did my surgery and are amazing. 920-725-4527. They are a Center of Excellence and their main surgery is the "gold standard" RNY! You'll love 'em!
Peace out!

Anyone know of a decent doc?
Thanks.......Keri

No, it was Dr. Wasco in Neenah.  I just didn't feel comfortable with his seminar. Seemed he was more interested in the insurance aspect of it all, and making sure you weren't a smoker.  I just 'didn't feel the love' like I did at Dr. Chua's.

I am still working towards this goal of surgery.  Trying to get all the paperwork into the insurance etc.  I'm learning patience whether I like it or not!  LOL

Take care.

Topic: Confused
I have surgery this thursday (august 5th) and as much as I learned what to do BEFORE surgery, what to do after is still a mystery to me.

I am not sure what I can have to "eat"
some people say yogurt will save me mentally
I've heard so many different things

I was hoping those who have had surgery and tell me what they did when they were out after a day, week, month, etc.

Thanks in advance!
