Topic: RE: No co-morbidites and getting approved..
Hi there!
I was wondering if you could update us on your status. Did you get approved? I, too, have badgercare w/ UHC and my BMI is 41.

Topic: Happy Thanksgiving!
I just wanted to say to all here, Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope your day is blessed and happy.  Some of us will be working, some having dinners at their home,  (some of us will try to do it all!  LOL  We are eating at noon, and I work at 3pm so....guess I don't have dishes!! YAY ME!!).  No matter what I hope we can all find something to be truly thankful for.

For me, I am thankful to have my surgery behind me, the wonderful support of OH and my family.  Two thanksgivings ago I didn't think I'd still be alive now, or rather I hoped I wasn't.  Life was miserable.  Last year having made the decision to go through with the committment I was 30# lighter, and now this year I sit 101# lighter than 2 years ago.  I can't believe the change in my life's quality.

I look forward to more years of holidays, and yes, I am going to indulge in all the trimmings tomorrow.....just a lot less than I have in years past!  :-)

Many thanks to all who were able to attend SWAPKINS in Burnsville, MN and to those who wanted to, but couldn't make it. We had a fabulous turnout.

There have been requests to have SWAPKINS outside of the Twin Cities. I'd be happy to organize a SWAPKINS anywhere within 3 hours of Bloomington, MN. All I need is your help in securing a space.

I learned that ObesityHelp and FaceBook aren't the best ways to communicate SWAPKINS updates, so I've opened a new email account: [email protected].

If you would like to be added to the mailing list, please send an email with the subject line:
I'M IN!
followed by the city and state where you live.

Share this information with anyone who might be interested in SWAPKINS. Have them email and they will be added.

Cheers! Jen

P.S. This message is only being posted to the Minnesota and Wisconsin Message Boards. Repost as you like.

Get yourself some lovely-new-to-you clothes for free? Finally part with all of those things in you closet that don't fit the way they should? The holidays are coming and this is a chance to get something to wear.

All contributions should be clean, in good condition without stains or holes. Everything will be arranged in the space by size - drop your stuff on the right size table and "shop" your size. Anything not claimed by the end of the event will be donated to charity.

Topic: RE: Wisconsin Halloween Challenge
I am sorry you are struggling so.  I read part of your blog, and while I don't quite understand it all (time sequence, etc) it seems as if you have really had a rough road for a while.

I think it is possible to eat all food groups and still lose weight.  It is all about balance and control tho which is why sometimes it's easier for me to stick to a strickly low-carb plan and then occasionally allow myself a food feast.  I've learned after too many years of dieting the only way I am going to be successful is to ditch the dieting and really focus on the lifestyle changes.

Therapy and self-help reading is really helping me to understand and how's and why's of why I "do and don't like" certain things.  I'm not a carb-free person, but rather I am a low/moderate-carb person.  I make sure to focus on protein and veggies first.  Then if I feel like carbs in one form or another I try to (but don't always) choose the healthiest form of carbs from the choices I'm given.

Don't be disappointed in yourself.  Every day is a new experience and discovery.  I really enjoy trying to learn something new.  Lately I've been knitting to keep my hands busy, keep my mind focused, and give me some long deserved relaxation.  Do you work on any projects?

Well, I'm needing my "pm before I go to bed nap" so I shall close.
Keep in touch and PM if you feel like it.  I am coming down to Milw for Tues am-late Wednesday pm next week for some appts.  Do you ever like to go out for lunch?  If so, where?

It would be fun to meet and laugh!
Talk to you soon.

Hi gang,
I'm not sure if ANY of you have heard of SWAPKINS. It's a clothing swap that started in 2006 by WLS folk in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. It's been a bit dormant lately, but we've got a new event coming up. This is a GREAT way to score free clothes and clear out your closets.

All are welcome. Tell your friends! WLS is not required ; )
The details are on the MN Message Board and FaceBook invite.

Dr. Chua is good. The band is not.
I'm just going to be blunt and hope that you'll know that I'm only trying to help you avoid pain.

I had my lapband done in 2002. It was horrible, worse than anything I could even describe.
I have watched friend after friend have awful experiences with the lapband and need to revise or remove.

It's a very short term solution for a long term problem. Please, please, please, read through the past history of the Revisions forum, the lapband forum, the failed and complications forums and see the common thread.

I know I'm probably coming off as bossy and a pain in the butt, but I really just want to help you avoid a big headache.

BEST OF LUCK to you. I hope all goes well, no matter what you ultimately decide.
