Topic: How long for WPS approval?
I have WPS insurance through Milwaukee County.  My paperwork will be ready to submit in another month. Anybody know how long it takes for WPS to approve?  I'm hoping it goes quick.

Topic: RE: Bariatric Institute of Wisconsin

I am in the process... no surgery date set yet, I'm still working on the pre-requisites my insurance company requires.  My doctor will be Dr. Engstrand of the Bariatric Institute.

Here is the website:  http://www.bariatricwi.com/?gclid=CObj46vy0ZMCFQopIgodDAZ0jw

They have a great reputation.  I have no fears about it.

Call CompCare, if it is like my HMO all prior authorizations and approvals will go through them. I called BadgerCare and they say that weight loss surgery is a covered benefit if medically necessary, but that the approval goes through your HMO. Good luck. Also ask them what are the requirements for prior authorization. I found out I have to have 6 months of visits with a dietician for prior approval. good luck. Julie

I have BadgerCare and CompCare as my HMO.. so who would I call? Both companies? I know RNY and Lap Band are covered but neither of them are my choice. Thanks for your reply :-)

I have BadgerCare with United Health Care as my HMO. I called and was told that the lap band was not covered, but gastric bypass (RNY) was. Call the number on the back of your card and ask. If you have a HMO call them instead and ask what is covered under your policy. Each policy can be different. Also, keep track of when you called and who you talked to for your records. Good luck.

Topic: Badgercare
Hello, I am wondering if anyone knows which weight loss surgeries ARE covered by BadgerCare and which ones are not, if any. I am going for the DS and I don't want to get my hopes all up and then find out that it's not covered. Thanks for any info!

Have you asked them if they have surgeons fax number? Have you asked them to fax it to you or if they would fax it to you? Do you have a fax, or know someone with a fax?  You  could even have them fax it to kinkos (that would be my last resort).  Have you talked to Carol at MWB? Has she received anything from them at all?  I know they won't proceed w/ a surgery date until they get it in writing. But STAY ON YOUR INSURANCE.  Don't let them put it to the side and put you off. Be a pain, talk to a supervisor, do whatever you need to do, but don't sit idly by and wait for them to do it when they feel the need.  If I did that I never would have had the surgery... so be persistant!!!
