Topic: RE: Strange question...
That's what's weird... I haven't noticed anything else different. Just that. My insurance case worker person said that she had had other clients who had reported the same kind of thing (but not exactly) and that it generally goes away within 3-6 months. Just thought I would check with real people who might actually know!

Hey Tammy, Yeah.. does the after taste seem to taste a little metalic?? You're body is probably in a state of Ketosis (what happens to your body when you lose weight/burn fat quickly). This not only affects your tastes, but your breath and body odor. I know.. fun right??? LOL The other posibility is that your taste buds are just changing.. another common after affect of surgery. I know that there are things I used to L-O-V-E and right now.... I can't even handle to smell them!
Topic: Strange question...
Hi!
I am new to this site...I had laproscopic RNY on 5/20/08. Everything has been going great- no problems or complications up to this point.
But, I do have one question. Has anyone who has had surgery noticed that things they used to drink before surgery now leave a bad after-taste in their mouth?
Before I had surgery, I loved to drink water with those little Crystal Light flavor packet things mixed in. Now, they just seem to leave a bad taste in my mouth.
I am just wondering if this is ever going to go away because I'm getting a little tired of plain old water!

Good for you Julie on losing the weight! I have to admit.. for so much of my 6 months pre op I didn't follow the diet. In fact I was dealing with some hard core last supper syndrome and ended up GAINING 26 more lbs! Then for the last month before surgery I buckled down... because by then I was scared to death of them NOT doing the surgery b/c my liver was too big. So then I lost 13 lbs that last month. Sometimes I wonder how much my weight would be down now if I had followed the pre op diet religiously?? But..hindsight is 20/20... I am a firm believer that where I am right now is exactly where I am meant to be. Keep us posted on your pre op.. and if you have any questions.. please feel free to ask so we can keep this board moving :-))

Denise- I have only had two visits so far so I won't be done until October. Yes, I am seeing Lori, and she gave me the pre-op diet to follow. I lost 8# in three weeks. Losing weight isn't the problem, keeping if off is!
Cindy - hope you hear from your insurance quickly!

CONGRATS CINDY!!! Isn't it exciting when you finally get that approval letter??? I still remember how I felt when I found out I was approved. It was an awesome feeling that I don't think I can describe. I got my date with in days of the approval. Its wonderful that your sisters have had it as well.. you have a great support system around you!!

Feel free to rant away!!! Welcome aboard! I must say, I am quite shocked at the rudeness of people. Don't get me wrong, I'm not little miss manners, when I get pissed, you best just back away... .but to be rude to someone for no good reason? I just don't get that!
As for how I am doing today.. 'eh... last night I have my first real dumping attack. I found out that Pinapple (my favorite fresh fruit) is no longer my friend. *sigh*
Topic: RE: Experience of Lap-Band surgeon
Hi my name is melissa and i had my lap band on may21 2008 by dr. james Kemmerling in green bay. If you are not fully comfortable with your doctor I would do some digging into her sucsess rate. Maybe even talk to other Doctors or even change doctors. You will be going through alot and you dont need the stress of not being confident of your wls. Dr. kemmerling was great and his staff.
Melissa
Ps good luck

Hello and welcome,
My approval came within a matter of days after it was sent. Hope yours comes in that fast. If you got to http://www.shrinkpictures.com/ you can resize your picture and then go to user settings on the left side of the board under Obesityhelp wisconsin weight loss fourm. Then you can upload your photo. You have to shrink your picture before you can upload it otherwise the system won't let you upload. I would like to also meet people around my area, but being so close to the Minnesota border it is often harder to meet people especially with the cost of gas going up all of the time.
