Hi Donna,

Your daughter (if you can get her to do it) should see her surgeon asap to get the gain under control.  In reviews of my surgeon and even when I went in to see him for the first time, I didn't get the feeling that I was being judged which is sometimes the feeling I get from my PCP though I do like him.  Even with that, he was instrumental to me getting my surgery because he was one of the recommendations that brought it over the top.

The liquid diet (I'm on full liquids but according to my surgeon's nutritionist (nut as abbre) isn't bad but I am starting to get to the point where I want to chew something.  I have been chewing gum and spitting it out so I don't forget how (lol)

I know what you mean--I'd love to go with you and your daughter and she should get to a group where she can find peers her own age (my daughter is 22 and luckily has a bmi of 24--I don't know how I did that).  Between the surgeon and a peer group, that may help.  Possibily being reminded of the road she traveled to get to where she is may help too.

Let me know how you and your daughter are doing too.

It is normal--are you drinking your oj?  That may help with the weakness and the good old elimination.

Hello Sylvia,

I am in the Appleton area but travel to the other side of Milwaukee to visit my sister.
I think that the clear liquid diet would be so hard to do, but I suppose that right now with only a week out you really don't feel like food do you or am I wrong? My highest was 260 (and I am only 5'1) and was weighed today at the Dr.'s office  and I am 253, my home scale appears to be off a bit. My daughter had an open RNY about 3 yrs ago, her highest weight was 315, she is now 167 and gaining. She abuses her tool, I have tried talking to her about but she's 28 so she knows more than I do. She lives with me right now so she has been stuck eating my way for the past week and a half. Even got a protein drink down her last night.
Anyways I got a list today of different support groups in the area so I am going to try to get one in next week. Its a shame we don't live closer so we could go together to them. The journey is always more fun when you have a freind to tag along.......lol
I had the H lori test today, the one where you blow into a bag, it went well and recieved all my dates and times for the rest of my appointments and all.
Well I suppose I am just ramblin on and on now. I will talk with you later. Have a wonderful weekend and keep me posted as to how you are doing and I will do the same.

Hi

My name is Sylvia and I am 53, married and have 1 child who is 22.

When I started my journey into WLS, I originally thought of lap band but my surgeon, Dr. Manfred Chaing of Bariatric Institute of Wisconsin in Waukesha, was not too enthusiastic about it because I weighed 407 at my highest and he didn't feel it would be most effective.

I went through all the insurance hoops, pre-surgery diet and got my operation on July 9th.  I am recovering right now and was going to attempt going back to work after 1 week but i was told not to (I had a couple of minor complications--fever, bladder which resolved but it still wipes you out).

If you are employed and your employer's insurance covers it, I would plan on 2-3 weeks out.

I am 1 week out and between the pre surgery diet and my post, I am down to 380.

Let me know how you are doing in your journey.  I can't help you with a group but some support groups don't have many early post ops and this is a site where you can see some of that.

Hi Donna,

I started my liquid diet and clear liquids on June 18th and had surgery on 7/9.  I am starting to feel human but I had a couple of glitches (fever, not being able to get rid of the cathether).

One of the coordinators at Bariatric Institute just called me today and I liken this to a baby.  I thought back to when I introduced food to my only daughter who is now 22 (and luckily for her, she does not have the issues I do--sometimes I don't know how that happened but I'm grateful).

My high weight was 407 on June 18th and I was 382 on surgery day.  You may not see much of a loss after you get out of the hospital (surgical gases, excess iv fluids) but don't give up.

Bread and pasta won't go away--they will still be there when you are able to handle them.

When I was on the pre op diet, mine was full liquid and clear liquid for 2 days.  I was craving Famous Dave's bbq chicken (no other kind, just that one - lol).  Then I wanted a crisp salad with chicken, low fat cheese and light 1000 Island.

What is hard is when you are at work and people bring food in.  You just get around it by saying you'll catch it later and later never comes.

This is a journey that will last for a long time which is something you have to keep in mind.  Do you have a support group nearby?  I had to go to one and wasn't able for time reasons to get to others.  Talking to others that are either going thru post op or pre op that are not that far out may help too.

I look forward to hearing from you and seeing your progress.  Are you in the Milwaukee area?

Luvey, worried about you.   Last message from you was that you were feeling really sick and weak from the protein shakes and you were waiting to talk to your doctor.  Are you okay? ~~ Cindy

125 with the band is no big deal at all. Stay on the lapband board and see how many have lost that and much more.

Thanks for advice..I am going to the UW WLS info seminar on 8/1.  My PCP is thru UW, so , I figure UW will be my hospital of choice..  I am still considering LAP Band, but worried about self pay and paying for fills and any complications.  I am also concerned about being able to lose the amount of weight I need to with the band and and also how long it will take..  I need to lose at least 125#.  I am also thinking of VSG as alternative, if I decide to do something more permanent, but I do not think UW does this procedure.  My insurance says it excludes all WLS, so, unless I get a miracle, whatever I do is going to be self pay .  I am a pessimist and worried enough without considering going out of country.  "If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all", I would be the one ending up on Montel with some horror story.
