Aug. 4. Terriffic!! Lot's to be nervous about, and it's good to be nervous... This is a big step to getting your life back. Lucky children to have their mother back to good health and lucky grandmother to be able to enjoy her grandchildren for a good long time. We'll be thinking of you, and may the hands of the surgeon be guided by a higher power. Let us know how things go for you. Lonswife
Five things about me: I'm a Wisconsin native, married twice, 2nd time to the man of my dreams.
Together we have 6 sons, all adults ranging in ages from 19 - 27, I'm fat, but not fat enough to have the bariatric surgery. I am supporting my hubby in this endeavour. We hope to get a new lease on life soon. We would love to hear from people who are new to the process as well as veteran's of the procedure. This change is both scary and exciting. .
I am 49 yrs young, and hubby is 48, with many more good years to come. I think thething we're looking forward to the most is to be able to walk and take hikes together. These are things that we've never done together. I miss the hiking especially. He swims at the YMCA when he can, alot of times there are wee ones taking lessons and using thre water slides, so it makes it difficult to do laps.

5 things about me.
1. I am 53 years old
2. Been married for 32 years and have a 22 year old daughter
3. Have been overweight ever since Kindergarten (I had my tonsils out then--I don't know if that is the connection or not)
4. Have been thinking about surgery for a couple of years and when I discovered the job that I have been at for the last year and a half did not exclude it I went for it
5. Started my RNY process with Dr. Chaing of Bariatric Institute of Wisconsin on 1/31 and by June 4th (thereabouts), I was approved
6. (this is more than 5) - had my surgery on 7/9 and am still recovering and have discovered that I am lactose intolerant. the reason I believe this is because when I mix protein powder with something other than milk, I don't have problems.
7. Do not regret my decision for a minute now despite complications from surgery (oxygen levels, fever, kidneys, cathether)
Sylvia
I have done the same thing--just started to talk to people.
My name is Sylvia and I had my surgery with Dr. Chaing at Elmbrook on July 9th. I started my preop diet on June 18th with a high weight of 407 at the dietitican's office. I weighed 382 on surgery day. I was in the hospial from July 9th and finally discharged on July 12th (3-1/2 days)--a few complications like cathether, fever.
The first week was hard. I was on the pain meds for part of the time and now I don't need them. I see Dr Chaing on Thursday and find out what the scale will tell me.
How has your journey been going?
Sylvia
I am in FdL, but I didn't have Dr.s Gould or Garren. If you need any support or advice on the lapband, please feel free to contact me. I had the lapband procedure done in 2003 in Green Bay. Had to have the band removed in 2005, however.
I am here if you have any questions or concerns.

RNY- 12/04/06 with Dr. Matt Glasock
LBL - 4/28/09 with Dr. Rene Recinos
I am glad that there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
I had my surgery on July 9th and between the pre-op diet and the only things I can have besides clear liquid are pureed chunky soup, cream of wheat, protein shakes (2 8 oz day w/skim milk), and yogurt. I am starting to get cravings again (especially since I am still recovering and tv makes food look better than it probably is. I have not waivered because I know what is at the end of the tunnel.
Once I "graduate" to some pureed food and progress, your advice is good to follow. I got a 2 oz and 4 oz measuring cup from Pampered Chef (my daughter sells it) for measuring and I do have a food scale that I have had to dust off.
Sylvia
Keep me posted on your progress
