Topic: hi, I am a new member
Hi all,
I am a new member but have been actively seeking approval for the Roux-n-Y surgery. I got the news that it was approved on July 16 th. Staff called me on the 17th and I am scheduled for August 11 th. I am really excited about trying to start a new life as I call it. It is a chance for me to gain some mobility and lose the weight that I haven't been able to for 27 yrs. I realize it will present many challenges as well as a completely different lifestyle, but I am hopeful all will be worth it in the end. My wife is soo supportive as well. Please reply back.
Thanks,
Lonbear1960

Topic: RE: LAPBand vs VSG...
At this stage, you don't need to choose a surgery already. There are so many differences, not to mention reasons to have either one. It does concern me, though, that you are already talking about adding a second surgery if one doesn't work. Don't set yourself up for failure. Having WLS is not a cure or magic. It's like having a second full time job for the rest of your life. Those who don't treat it like one, are the ones who end up gaining back weight. Having the VBG was me new beginning in life, and I think about my surgery, what I eat, exercising, portion control, nutrition, vitamins, chewing, chewing, chewing, fluids, etc. every day. It consumes a good part of my day mentally, and I'm glad it does. I'm not going to fail at this and I remind myself that whatever surgery someone has, it is only a TOOL. The real work is done by me. Go through the steps, the multiple appointments with psych and nutritionists, and THEN have the doctor help you figure it out. If the doctor and his staff don't put you through the paces, you may be disappointed and left on your own. Ask lots of questions, and good luck!

Good Luck with surgery this week. We'll all be pulling for you. Update us when you're up to it. Take it easy and try not to worry about it. You'll do just fine.

Hi Sandy,
I went on a liquid diet, clear liquids, back to full liquid (with sfree pudding, cream of wheat, pureed soup and yogurt) (that was at the hospital and continued until my 2 week follow up on Thursday of last week. From 6/18 (when I went on my prep diet****il now, I have lost 35 pounds. My schedule is seeing the nurse and dietitican in another few weeks and the dr in 3 months.
I am now on pureed food (protein vegys, fruit, meat) with a goal of 60 grams of protein per day and at least 48 oz of sugar free fluids (sfree popsicles, water, crystal light, etc)
I will be going back to work on Wednesday (3 weeks from surgery date which didn't make my boss happy because I was going to try less than 2 weeks--very dumb but the nurses at my surgeon's office talked me out of that one). I had some complications (oxygen levels after surgery, fever the day I was to go home and urinary issues) which resulted in another day at Elmbrook Memorial.
I did attempt to eat scrambled eggs without pureeing and they came right back up. Lesson learned-you have to do this at least once I think.
The more you look at it like a rebirth (my surgery was July 9th and my 53rd birthday was July 3rd so for me it was), it is just like a baby's stomach. You keep track of what agrees with you and what doesn't. This is a journey.
Keep in touch.
Sylvia

Hi Cindy!
I am so sorry for making you worry. My inlaws surprised us with a visit. They drove from Canada to be here and stayed for 8 days. I haven't been on the computer much at all, and just saw this message. I have to say I always forget to check the Wisconsin board.
I am still not feeling well, but, have lost 28 pounds on my three week liquid pre op diet. My surgery is in 3 more days and I am terribly nervous.
Hope all is well with you Cindy!
:hugs:

Hi Sylvia,
I had my surgery on 6/24, so I will be 5 wks on Tuesday. I was never on a full-liquid diet per se. I mean pureed yes, but not if I had eggs, cottage cheese, tuna, fish or other soft foods. I did eat too fast on one occasion without chewing well and that came right back up. My requirements are 60 - 80 grams of protein/day & 64+ fluid ounces. It is suggested to have 30g of protein from a powder/shake and I do unjury chocolate.
So far, so good. Hope you are doing well.
Sandy

I also can't help w/ your question... but I will agree with the other poster... Dr. Wasco and his staff are wonderful. I have nothing but good things to say about him!
Topic: RE: I am so fricken mad,
Thanks Jamille but I did try that and it was no use, he feels that I don't know enough about the surgery so all I can do is suck it up and carry on. I was just so upset when I first got the news.I am feeling better now.
Topic: Bradley Mays
Hi...
Did anyone on here have Bradley Mays as their surgeon? I'm sure you've heard he passed away in his sleep this week at the age of 44.
He practiced out of Columbia St. Mary's in Milwaukee.
I have only heard good things about his practice.
I'm sure he'll be missed.
