Oh man!  I'm so sorry about that.  You worked so hard and, 10 miles, I couldn't even ride a bike that far.  :)  You did well.  Maybe a little rest is in order after all.  Bring out the crafts and try not to think about it.  Blessings to you and I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Hi all,

Got a call from the surgeon's office yesterday and my surgery date was moved up to the 19th now.  So liquid diet is moved up to the 12th now.  :)  Two days earlier is fine with me.

Have a great day!

I am so bummed! I have been training and working so hard to do one of every distance running races this summer, ending in September with a half-marathon.  I was up to running 10 miles without dying. Well, it's all in the dumpster now! I thought I had a shin splint, but it wasn't getting better so I went to the doctor yesterday. I actually fractured my tibia! To top it all off, I was favoring that leg for a couple days, and threw out my back and can barely move without help! I'm not one for a "pity-party", but this is my party and I'll cry if I want to!  Well, thanks for joining my party. I just wanted to whine a little, and since the competer chair is the only one I can sit in, you are my captive audience!  Luv ya all!

Hi Lon,

Dr. Wengert did my surgery on February 25th.  The only thing I have to say about him is don't expect follow-up care with him.  I've seen posts from other people on some of the other boards who get upset if their surgeon doesn't return their calls, etc.  You'll probably get to know Kelly, the bariatric nurse and one of the two physician assistants who work in General Surgery, Penny and some guy.  Kelly is super nice and she came to see me every day while I was in the hospital to check on me.  Dr. W did as well but his was more breeze in, breeze out.  I didn't mind.  The only complaint I had with the surgery was the non-private room at St. Joseph's.  Both nights I was there I had very noisy roommates.

Take care and good luck with everything!!!  It's coming up quick!

Good luck Lon.
Follow the guidelines of your surgeon and make sure to get your water in.  I'm 9 months post op and very happy I had the surgery.

My surgery is scheduled for August 21st and my husband is terminally ill with Huntington's disease.  I hope I do well without his support.  Both my sisters are here for me and they have had the surgery, Rou-n-y, so they are really my best cheer leaders.  p.s.  (I'm a MK consultant too!  Although since we moved to Wisconsin I haven't been actively selling much.  I started a new job and moved, etc., etc. so I'm kind of out of the loop for now.

I agree with the protein, that is what my sisters always say.  Protein first!

Have a great day...  Cindy (TwoHearts)

Thank God for supportive spouses!  Without them it would be much harder. :)

I would concentrate on eating just protein and NOT drinking anything 30 minutes before and after you eat. That was the hardest for me to do since I always drank something when I ate.

Please keep me posted as how you are doing....The surgery will be soooo worth it. Which surgery are you having?

I had high blood pressure, sleep apnea, ulcers, hip pain and diagnosised with diabetis prior to surgery but refused meds cause I knew I was going to have surgery and that would cure that. I haven't taken any meds since the day before my surgery. I feel great not taking all those meds and I am now down 46#  and 3-4 sizes in clothing and next week will be 3 months out. I had blood work done last week so I will be seeing what my vitamin levels are at and what if any more vitamins I will have to take.

ty for the response. I am excited too but I also know it is an everyday change. I am looking forward to being able to go for walks with my wife and go swimming at the ymca. my wife is wonderful and will push me to do the right thing because she cares so much. I am grateful to have her. I know I cant stand it anymore being 475 lbs. my arthritis almost makes it impossible to walk with the bad knees
We are in Marshfield and getting the surgery here in town at St. Josephs hospital. August 11th is coming up fast. Do you have any suggestions for pre-surgery (like, things to do?)

thanks,

 Lon

Hi Carmen,

the pancreatic with duodenial switch is the next step up from RNY.  This would be something you would want your surgeon to describe in more detail.  My surgeon talked to me about it but I wasn't ready for this and opted for the lap RNY.

Good luck in your journey.  Keep in touch.
