Wow. The first thing I notice in your letter is a very negative tone. Did you research and educate yourself as much as possible about the surgery before hand? Did you try different proteins and foods? Well too late for that now. I think the first thing should be to take a deep breath and be thankful you made it through the surgery. The next step would be to allow yourself time to find some more palatable foods and shakes. Is there a support group at your hospital? Or maybe in your area? Maybe visiting some others who have had the surgery can help you get more ideas. I am so sorry you are feeling this way, but this is a VERY radical surgery and it requires lots of research, trial and error and patience. You may want to call you doctor too if you are concerned about your medicine but please, talk to someone face to face in your area. Good Luck.

Ok it has been 2 weeks and 3 days since my surgery. My nut only gave me three days of sample menus which I have been eating this whole time..It has now gotten to the point that I am so sick of eating the same crap over and over that I have found that I am barely even eating anymore. Suppose to have 3 meals a day and I think I am doing maybe 2....On top of that there is the protein...before I left the hospital my nut and coordinator gave me a bag of protein samples. Probably about 20+ different kinds of protein drinks...THEY ARE DISGUSTING!! either they are way too sugary, way to gritty, or the flavor is so gross it makes me gag...So in another words have not been drinking my protein...Then the vitamins....I have been taking my flinestones but the taste of them has changed dramatically from before surgery and they taste super bitter..I got the Citracal petites and they said they need to be crushed..I tried it 3 times once in a beverage, once in applesauce, once it oatmeal..but having to take four of them a day makes whatever I put them in super chalky and again it is making me gag. As for iron haven't even tried what I got cause I think the pharmacist gave me the wrong kind cuz its coated and doesnt crush very well...Not sure what kind to get...
I see my nut on Monday and my surgeon on Tues..I have lost at least 26 lbs since surgery but am soo damn hungry and dont know what I can have aside from the three day sample menu they gave me. I was told I would be on pureed the first month and have tried the baby food meat and that is disgusting and again the gag reflex. I don't know what to do I feel I am starving myself..
Oh also during my stay at the hospital I was given Heprin shots to avoid blood clots. I have developed HUGE bruises in the areas they can me the shots and they are not going away..They actually seem to get getting bigger and darker..My mom told me last night she watched something on 20/20 where someone who help make the medicine poisoned it and people have died from it and got very sick...So now she has me freaked out that the Heprin I received was tainted....
Please give me some advice on what I can eat at this stage and what I can do about my protein and vitamins....I feel as if I have no energy and all I want to do is sleep!

Congratulations! Keep up the good work! If you do still want surgery in the future, you may want to switch doctors. Dr. Chua in Milwaukee goes with your highest documented weight for insurance purposes. He has a great team of people, and is excellent! Keep your appointments and keep your head high! You're fantastic!
Topic: I don't qualify for surgery anymore!
I have seen my nutritionist three times now (for the required 6 visits). She told me at my last appointment that my BMI has dropped below 40, and that my only co-morbidity (high cholesterol) doesn't exist anymore. I have lost 26#, and my cholesterol if fine now, so I don't qualify. I am going to continue to see her for three more times to get that requirement in, in case something changes in the future. I hope to continue to loose weight on my own, and never need the surgery! I know I have said that before, but my mind is in a different place right now, so I think I will succeed!
Topic: RE: Where is Luvey?
Hi Cindy,
I returned home yesterday afternoon. I am sore and tired. My insurance didn't cover the pain meds, so I had to get a pain med that isn't quite as strong and I am up late tonight because it isn't taking care of the pain for me. I will call the BIW tomorrow and see if I can get something stronger.
Otherwise, I am doing well. The hospital and staff were wonderful as was Dr. Chaing!
Hugs,
Jne

Is there anyone reading this that is a patient with the Lapband surgery and with Dr. Gould or Dr. Garren that could give me some feedback?
I am looking to switch programs and would be a self pay patient for the most part.
Thank you in advance.
Stacey

Topic: RE: I'm so bummed! My summer is ruined!
I stayed home today because the goofy way I've been walking on it for almost a week has done a number on my back, so I can only sit in one chair and need help to stand. I did get crutches today and they help. I'll be back to work tomorrow, but hope to be able to sit a little bit during the day (I'm a bank teller). My running is probably over for the summer, but I'll be pushing the limits to try to get in at least a late season 5K or 10K. My husband will be the final voice on that one!

I'm so glad you are okay. Just saw your message and you should be recovering now. Let us know how you are doing as soon as you feel up-to-it.
