Well, I'm here at the hospital. All is going well so far. Surgery went well and this morning I took the swallow test that showed that I didn't have any leaks. I just finished walking around the hallways, and have been disconnected from the cath, iv, etc... I had my first meal of 3 ounces of grape juice and a low sugar popsicle. The hospital has been very supportive here at Gundersen and so far I am doing fine. My stomach does hurt, but that is to be expected. Thanks for all your support and btw, the crab legs were very good and not a problem for my surgery as long as I stopped eating by midnight.
I feel very positive and am looking to my new life.

Thanks for both of your responses. I guess my frusteration got the better of me and I stressed too much about the small things. Saw the nut today and she gave me a few other options for food as well as different vitamins to try as well as protein..Next payday I will get these items and see if it works any better. So as of this point I am feeling better and still glad that I had the surgery. Alos hubby was a genius and got creative with some beef gravy, hamburger and mashed potatoes..Now I got something that I like to eat for a few more days. Thanks again for your responses and support.

Hi Cindy,
I had a bit of a setback yesterday. Was running a fever of 101 so they had me go the ER at Elmbrook. They admitted me for observation. They did a bunch of tests to check for leaks and all looks good. They are not sure why I was running the fever, but, my temp broke so they sent me home with some stronger pain meds since I have zero pain tolerance with all my chronic pain. I am glad to be back home and am just gong to take it easy until I heal up a bit more.
Your date is approaching quickly Cindy! I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep me udpated.
Hugs,
Jen

If I were you and having surgery tomorrow, I'd check with the surgeon. I don't think you are supposed to be eating like that.... sounds good, but I think it is a no no. I have to have the protein shakes for a week and most do it longer... Please double check.
Topic: WI WLS Info
Hello, All!
Since I am researching some of the WLS programs, I thought I would pass info along as I received it and share with others. I am posting info that differentiates each program. All programs have other things like nutrition, psych, etc and some of the requirements are also dependant on your insurance. I hope it is helpful, and I will add new info as I get it!!
Theda Clark: Offers LAPBand and RNY. They will do VSG on selected cases who cannot have the other options due to medical reasons. The self pay costs are: $17K for LAPBand and $26K for RNY and VSG. These are approximate numbers. You can sign up for one of their seminars for additional info and to continue your WLS journey. 1 800 236 2236.
UW Madison: I attended their seminar last week. They offer RNY and gastric banding. They exclusively use the REALIZE band as they feel it is a superior performing product. They offer a self pay "package" for the band, $19K whi*****ludes your pre-ops and 1 year post op care, including fills, and complications, I believe. They do not do DS. They have done revisions. They do VSGs. DR Garren is very excited about this procedure and feels with further research and long term findings that this could become the surgery of choice. However, they do not offer a self pay plan for this surgery. He did say they are beginning to consider offering a package for this surgery. I plan on following up with staff and will keep you informed.
Bariatric Institute of WI: I got a message from a fellow OHer that they do VSGs here. I have been checking out their website and see they also offer BLIS to self pay patients. So, I am in the process of contacting them to get addtional info and I will pass it on soon!!

Hi!
I had Heparin shots too in the hospital. And I had HUGE bruises in every location they gave me a shot. It took a REALLY long time for mine to go away (like 6 weeks!). They stayed really dark for a long time then VERY slowly faded away. I wouldn't worry too much. You can always ask your doc when you go in tho if you are really worried about it.
This is just my experience, but my doctor & nut never wanted me to try to get in extra protein with shakes, etc or all the vitamins that you describe that early out. I was told not to worry about the protein until you are eating semi-solid to solid food- that they want all the protein I get to be from food. I am only taking 2 chewable vitamins (Centrum has a good orange flavored adult chewable) a day. That's it. Doc says we'll worry about the rest later after things stabilize and I'm getting enough water, etc. I'm 11 weeks out this week. I am going to see my surgeon next week for my 3 mo checkup and I'm sure it'll all change for me then.
So, if I was you, I wouldn't sweat over these things so early out.
I hear you about the gag reflex... I have a REALLY bad one! I gag thinking about gagging!![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/smile.gif)
I think at 2 or 3 weeks out I was just starting cottage cheese, pudding, mashed potatoes, etc. You can have anything with the texture of the food in your sample meals... use your imagination. I sure know it's hard when you're gaggy.
Take care,
Tammy

Wow, you're lucky! Most everyone know of has had to be on a 1 to 2-week liquid diet before surgery. Well have fun tonight and good luck and best wishes for tomorrow! I hope everything goes smooth and your recovery time is short. :o)
Topic: Crab Legs Tonight, Surgery tomorrow
Hello All,
Thought I would say hello as someone from WI (La Crosse area). Tomorrow is the big day. I am meeting with a group of friends from work for one last obscenely large meal of crab legs at the Freight House restaurant. I have so appreciated everyone's support of me at work and at home. I made the decision to be out with what I was doing and not keep it secret. I am glad that I did so far. I do tend to be a private person and I am working on reaching out to others for supoprt.
I don't feel nervous today (that I am aware of). I think it will kick in tomorrow. I think I have been numbing myself with food. I can't wait.
