I agree. Medicaid should cover surgery. Do research on line. I know the program at Theda Clark takes Medicaid/MA/BadgerCare. Call the program and they have staff specifically trained to help you with the insurance. This site has tons of great info. You can cruise the other boards to help decide if you want to have suregery and which one is best for you. Also, attend the free WLS seminars. You can get a lot of info and support there. Good luck. BTW, I am from Waupaca/WildRose, Too! My famiily is still there and I go up every couple of weeks to visit!! Take care!!

With your 11 year old you should be able to qualify for MA or BadgerCare. Worth looking into. They even cover WLS...so maybe no need to self pay if you can wait??
Topic: RE: WI State Fair
I went to the WI valley fair, but since I am still on pureed food, I didn't get to eat anything. It was torturous. I ended up taking my crystal light with me as well as a pack of baby food bananas to eat. I would suggest staying away from the real sugary items (yeah sucks doesn't it) and watch for those that are supper greasy. I know one of the cheese curd places were super greasy and my sister got sick from it and they hadn't had the surgery. Good luck and have fun.

I don't know what insurance they accept but Midwest bariatrics in Neenah is great and helpful. I hit 377 so I know the getting exhausted feeling even when doing the smallest things. If you need a ear I'm here.
Topic: RE: UW Madison Bariatric Program
Hi Stacey,
I started out with the UW program. The doctors and staff are very friendly. They have monthly support group meetings. Your first step would be to call to get signed up for a seminar. You can get information on the program at uwhealth.com. Click on the services tab, then on the bariatric surgery tab. There, you'll find links to their surgery support message board and an email address to contact someone about getting started in the program.
I found the program to be extremely thorough. However, while doing research, I learned about the DS surgery and decided to have that instead of the RNY. Since the DS surgery isn't performed at UW Health, I switched to a different program. My decision to switch had nothing to do with the quality of care I was receiving at UW Health. I would highly recommend attending a seminar and a support group meeting. Good Luck!!

Topic: RE: 5 months post-op, 1 month after 3rd fill, plateau for 5 weeks
Exercise is the answer. You'll stay stuck for a long time unless you get out there and move. I swear by it and it becomes part of your daily routine. You need at least 30 mins. 3-4 times a week. You can add more once you get use to at least doing that.
Hair loss for me was a real eye opener. 3-4 months post op I lost lot's but by 5-7 months new growth was appearing. I think it's pretty normal. You may need to get some extra vitamins on board. Talk to the dietician.
Start to exercise or you'll be stuck longer then 5 weeks.
Good Luck!!

Most Bariatric programs accept Medicaid. Talk to your primary care doctor and he / she can refer you to a bariatric doctor in your area. Good Luck.
Let us know how things turn out for you.

Topic: 5 months post-op, 1 month after 3rd fill, plateau for 5 weeks
Hi, I'm new to this way of getting and giving support. I've been losing an abnormal amount of hair during the last month but no weight. Started at 337, down 47 pre-op and 40 post. Haven't lost or gained for the last 5 weeks. I'll admit that I'm not following the bari. clinic rules or exercising. I know, the solution seems obvious to me, too. Doing the right things is a whole different matter. Miss friend food, cooking, and feel like I'm squandering this opportunity which I truly appreciate having. Eating much less than pre-op overall. Drinking plenty of protein drinks daily in milk. 'Need some input from other lap band patients. Doc's RD wants me to start recording food consumption again and work on a food plan from there. Mixed feelings about that. 'Been there and done it. Have any of you had similar experiences or thoughts? Have you gotten past a similar "stuck point"? How did you do it? Is this the emotional side of the struggle that I was told about pre-op? I could really use some opinions here. How often do we get to give those!? Thanks, VR
