Topic: RE: LAPBand vs VSG...
oh, yes. I believe you shared your story on another post. I have decided on the VSG and will be going to LapSF with either Cirangle or Jossart.
I have an acquaintance who had a RNY at Theda. I do not know who her surgeon was, though..but she has nearly died a couple of times due to serious complications...stuff like her intestines twisting and atrophy setting in...gangreous infections..she went septic and had to have a lot of her intestines and some muscle removed...rupturing hernias..her insides are basically being held together with surgical mesh at this point. I don't know or understand all the details, but.....Good grief.
I hope your nightmare is over soon. Take care!!!

Topic: RE: LAPBand vs VSG...
I hope you have made a decision by now. Which ever one you choose should be OK as long as it is done properly and you follow the diet. You can read my posts about my nightmare with the lap band, but that does not mean the lap band doesn't work. My problems have been identified by one of the best bariatric surgeons in this country as "surgical error". The documentation goes on to state that "he has substantiated beyond any doubt that the problems began at the time of the placement of the band . . . the band was not properly placed". That doesn't mean that the lap band doesn't work, it only means I had an inexperienced surgeon (Kevin Wasco). There is also a person who I know who had the GSV done by Kevin Wasco earlier thsi year. This was a revision of her lap band and he told her she was an "excellent Candidate for the VSG". She proceeded with that surgery and ended up with internal bleeding. She said she was so sick she thought she was going to die, and is first feeling somewhat better now. How odd we both had the same surgeon and had long term complications? I don't think which type of surgery you choose is as important as the surgeon and/or facility you are going to use. Had I done my homework, I would be far better off today. I hope all goes well for you.
Topic: RE: Any WI peeps getting DS??
Thanks. I know that CompCare covers RNY and Lap Band for sure. I know I will probably have to appeal it to get the DS covered. I just want to know if anyone is in the same boat. I have a MN surgeon chosen and am just hoping sooo much I can get this.
Topic: RE: 3 month post RNY
WTG!!!! I am about the same out as you. May 6th was my RNY. How are you doing on eating and hair loss and all. ? I am haveing horrible times right now. My hair is falling out fast, my food choices are bad, my dr.s nurse is not alot of help and I can't find a local suporrt group or a local phsyic that deals with WLS stuff.
Do you have any issues or are things going good?

I had a RNY in minnesota the begining of May and badgercare was my secondary ins. and they never asked any ?'s and paid what they said they would in the coverage info I had got from my case worker.
I am almost positive you should have no problems with it getting paid for. You may have to do a 6 month supervised diet first, but check wiht your case worker to be sure the exact requirements.

Hi...
I also have Aurora Insurance ( United Helathcare UMR ) I have had great luck with my journey. I also see an Endocrinologist for Thyroid Cancer. I recommend the group at the Endocrine center at St. Lukes Hosp. The main Hosp. number is 649-6000 ( I think : ) They are an excellent group, a group many other doctors go to for their healthcare needs.
Primary care physicain I recommend Rita Schultz 281-5150 Excellent !!! and has many many patients that have had Bariatric surgery. She can recommend a shrink. Her husabnd is actually one. Good Luck keep us posted. If I can help you at all feel free to call or e-mail me.
