Hi there!!  Welcome to the journey of a lifetime!  I'm in Kenosha.

Dr. Chua did my surgery.  Great surgeon.  My life has changed for the best!
I'm almost 7 months an am down 93 pounds.

If you have a choice on nutritionists - they are all good, but I LOOOOOVE Deanna... she's great!

Good luck in everything!

I am a Real Estate Agent - not practicing because as soon as my house sells I'm moving to California.  The best Real Estate Agency in Wisconsin is Shorewest - I worked out of the Kenosha office.  Their training and support are amazing.  They send you to 2 week intense training - teach you everything you need to know, then you have in office training as well.  Each office has a few mentors for you to shadow and they will bend over backwards to help you out.  There are so many out there that plop you in office, charge you rent, have crap splits and are cut throat.  I suggest taking some time and interviewing a few places you might be interested in - that's what I did.   Good luck and I hope the market turns around by time you are finished with your license!!

Dear Musicman, Thanks for the words of encouragement. I work in Oshkosh. My husband is a native of Oshkosh. We live out in the country between Omro and Winneconne. My husband is a deer hunter too.

I am so happy that you are doing alright and are getting good care except that they gave you something with sugar. Did they forget why you were there? Yikes! I have my all day of pre-op tomorrow and had my pulmonary test today. I then go to the last session of the life skills class in Menasha that Chris Matulla runs. He is a great guy and I learned a lot. I guess I knew much of it, but it was a good reinforcer. There are 12 in my group, it was the biggest that he's had. It was good to listen to others. I also went to the support group in Neenah that meets once a month. There were only 5 WLS survivors there, but it was good.

You continue to do well yourself. Merry Christmas.

I totally understand the excitement.  I had my surgery on Nov. 25th after going through the required 6 month supervised diet.  My wife had her surgery on Dec. 11th.

We would do it all again.  We were (still are) overweight and tired too much of the time.  We are going through this journey together and we will reap the benefits together.

Both of us had Dr. James Wallance as our surgeon and we could not be happier at this point in our recovery.

Topic: RE: gastric bypass vs lapband

I can tell you the major reason I chose RNY over the lapband.  It is called cheating.  With a lapband, I could cheat.  I could eat the wrong things with the lapband.  As long as I chewed enough to get it past the band then I would be home free.

With RNY, that is impossible.  The stomach and intestines are "re-plumbed" so that if I cheat and eat the wrong things, I pay for it.  I need this enforcement until I can train myself.  I have been doing very well since my RNY on Nov. 25th.  I am on stage two foods and not having any hunger or pain issues at all.

My list of pre-op health problems were growing as well.  So far, my type 2 diabetes is now gone.  I will be going to the doctor on Dec. 29th and get a blood panel doen where I hope that my cholestrol is normal and I can drop that pill as well.

Stick to it and get through the surgery and many of your issues will go away or be reduced.

I just had laproscopic RNY last week (Dec 9th) by Dr Georgen. I'm not sure who assisted him, but I see him again on Monday and will try to remember to ask. Dr Georgen is awesome, and seems to genuinely care for his patients. He just always seems to be in a hurry!!!

Betsy and the rest of the staff up there are all incredible people!! I wouldnt worry to much about who does your surgery, Midwest Bariatrics is one of the only Centers of Excellence in Wisconsin, and I'm sure they dont give that title out to just any place that does surgery.

Keep your chin up, and just go with the flow. Things will be fine. Just have to remember NO SUGAR!!! I was only in the hospital for two days, and went to a rehab center afterwards (because I'm confined to a wheelchair and cant get up and walk around). They "accidentally" gave me regular Jello...gave me the dumps all day. They gave me boullion instead of broth a couple times too....that didnt sit well.

Totally need some support from people in the local Milwaukee area! I've been on OH since like 2005 but couldn't remember my old password lol so I made a new page like a year ago or something. Still not have updated the page but eh I'm working on it.

I have UMR insurance and Dr. Chua will be my surgeon. I'm SO excited to be here and actually get this in the going after years of waiting. I went to the seminar, had my psychological appointment and meet with the nutrionist this Thursday ( YES! im aware that I spelled that wrong)! I'm STOKED to get the Gastric Bypass performed. I have never been so thrilled and excited about something in my life. I feel so passionate about this and I can't believe that I'm actually going through with this. It's been quite a journey.

I'm currently 390 pounds and stand about 5'11 inches. I'm so sick of being obesed, it's not even funny. I totally need support from others and if others wanna get together, that'd be super cool too!!!

If anyone has any advice, has or had Dr. Chua, then please share some words with me! Thanks again!

Topic: gastric bypass vs lapband
Hi,
I am new to the group. I had a visit with my family dr and she suggested I get the bariatric surgery (gastric bypas surgery) She didn't seem to be fond of the lapband. And not sure if the lapband is covered by insurance. She told me to call my insurance and see if they cover the surgery they do. All I have to pay is the copays. But also need a referall from my dr and then the surgeon needs to do prior authorization. My BMI is 50. I have diabetes, diabetic neuropathy, high blood pressure, high cholestrol, varicose veins (need them striped), heel spurs. Also dr sending me for a sleep study as well. Also my diabetes is start to effect the kidneys as well. I have osteroarthritis in both my knees but my right knee is bad. And had a cortisone shot a week ago go for the left on the 30th. And this dont' work knee replacement surgery. It's one health problem after another. Then my acid reflux acts up times too. I am going to a free seminar by Dr. Thomas Chua on Jan 8th. I guess you have to attend there seminar before even getting seen at there clinic. So good thing to learn more about this surgery. Being obese really has taken a toll on me and my family. I also have 2 children ages 11 and 14 who have weight issues as well. I don't want them to turn out to be like me. A couple weeks ago my right knee was so bad I had to go to the er and all they did was give me anti inflammatorys and pain pills. I couldn't get off the toilet or the chair without assistance from my hubby. All I could do is cry. I am 44 yrs old and feel like a 60 yr lady. I am falling apart. I want to be here for my kids and hubby. And if I don't do something now I am afraid my health problems will get worst.

Thanks for listening. Hope to hear from others with there experiences and how you made the decision between gastric bypass surgery vs lapband..

Jane its like anything else, some people are happy with their surgeon and the next not. I have all the faith in the world in  the surgeons at Midwest Bariatric. A word of advise is to stick with the program the best you can. When they say theres a "honeymoon period" for weight loss, they are serious. Usually in the first 9 - 12 months you will lose the most weight, after that it slows down and you have to watch everything you eat just like before. I remember right after surgery and going to support groups thinking, what are those people talking about that they can eat like before. I could hardly eat a 1/2 cup of yogurt. But its true, so keep in mind the surgery is a tool and you have  to make it work. I have regained 20 pounds in the last year, and trust me it feels like 50, it happens so fast.  I have to really keep an eye on it, I can gain really fast. All those cravings come back once you put the carbs back into your diet. They are the culprit, so stay away from them as long as you can. Good Luck, you can always count on your OH freinds to help you out, Debra
