Topic: RE: Joining this forum
Hello everyone. I just got started on the system as I'm going through the exhausting steps of getting approved for surgery tenatively scheduled for July 20, 2009 with Dr. Regan at Columbia. I'm self-pay although I have insurance that absolutely refuses to entertain any of my request. I have no desire to fight it out with them as I feel arguing with the insurance company will only add to my stress and probably my waistline; so, I talked it over further with my husband and we decided to take out a loan.
I am 5'6" and 250. I am interested in having the RNY surgery and I certainly would appreciate any freeback, advice, or suggestion on just about anything you can offer.
Also, I just had my Endoscopy with CLO H.Pylori test done and it came back postive for the bacterium. I'm on antibiotic treatment as of tonight and have been very upset about this as I have been symptom free and had no idea I was infected. Any freeback from someone who experienced this set-back; please send me support on this. Thank you in advance for your kindness and support.

Topic: RE: Pouch
Oh Shari! You crack me up! The fetus thing made my morning! I've been able to feel the pouch since about 6 months after surgery (when I was down almost 100 lbs.) I remember feeling like an alien was inside me as well! I was told that we know it's there now because the fatty layers aren't there, and because we are mentally more in tune with our bodies. Because I'm a little wierd sometimes, I like to make my pouch and stomach "talk" by forcing my stomach muscles in and out to get a squeeking, gurgling, groaning noise. It's fun to do at work to annoy those around me who are grossed out easily!   I should try out for America's Got Talent!!   Take care, Shari!  Let's get some warm weather soon!

Definitely!  Where do you live again?  A suburb of Milwaukee, right?  PM if you would rather keep it on the DL.

I had BadgerCare Plus, called Children's Community Health Plan. I was approved in only a couple of days, once my papers were submitted to the right place! Then I had my surgery a month later.

Good luck to you!

I'm not sure of the program at the UW.  At Dean, we had to do a six month supervised diet, psych eval, physical therapy eval and once we were approved we would meet with the surgeon.  We also had to attend at least two support groups (they would check the sign in sheets).  I hope things go smoothly for you.  Not sure if Badger Care is the same.

Thanks so much for the info. I am so nervous because I have read on here about people who have the same insurance and have more problems than me and they were denyed. I am not sure why the UW Health people would bring me in before submitting to insurance...maybe they are positive they can get it approved?

I have Dean insurance and they usually review cases on Tuesday's and Thursday's.  I took about a week for my approval.  Not sure about UW but surgery at St. Mary's was about 4-5 weeks after approval.  We had to attend a class for our pre-op diet and had to meet with the surgeon.

Congratulations and good luck to you.  Let us know how things go.
