I am 4.5 mos out. Went back to work 3 weeks post op because I felt good. Worked 1/2 day for the first three days because I thought I might get too tired. It was OK. I'm lucky that I can keep a tiny frig in my office so have access to shake and liquids all day. Was so busy when I went back that I forgot to eat some meals. Now have a schedule of supplements, shakes and meal times posted above my desk--but still play catchup most days.
I was hoping to be at goal in 6 mos but am a lightweight and have averaged 2# a week after the first week post-op. I gues I'll shoot for 8 mos to goal.
Going to knitting class tonight. Expecting a new grandbaby in February so am sharpening up my knitting skills to knit a baby blanket. Tonight is my second of two classes. I may tackle some more advanced classes this winter. I have designated one night a week to work on my project -- when my DH is not home--so I am not interrupted and can really concentrate.

Hi Jody,
We both have the same surgeon. Dr. Chaing performed my RNY on 7/9/08.
The best of my first year--watching the weight fall off, giving away bags and bags to Goodwill, getting to like exercise, so many things. I was the queen of sweets and now they don't bother me. That is probably the best.
The worse of the year--early out when I couldn't eat dense protein but learned patience and can pretty much eat any type of protein as long as I chew it.
My #1 tip-though I just past the one year, be prepared for some weeks losing and some not as much and just enjoy the ride.
My biggest surprise--That I lost 180 pounds from my heaviest weight and 160 pounds from surgery. I am learning to love exercise (although I am battling a blood blister from walking 5 miles in 1 hour and 40 minutes (3 mph-with an average incline of 5.2--last year at this time I couldn't walk 25 feet without excrutiating pain). That I lost this weight despite having the surgery at 53.
My family has been supportive and proud of me. My sisters and brother were ready to form an intervention with my weight because they were very worried about me. My mother who had the stomach stapling in 1984 (she lost 80 pounds and has varied 20 pounds over the last 25 years but has been wheelchair bound for the last 3 and is on the road to recovery after amputation) and my father were scared for me to have it because mom knows how hard it was for her and didn't want to see me go thru it but it had to be done. The only road I was traveling was to a slow death.
Welcome to our world.

I had the lap band and stalled about then....Have you had the first fill yet? I stalled at 3 weeks and when I had the fill at 5, it started going again. And you went from little to no exercise to gun ho. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat. Just make sure you get your 65 + grams of protein in. That will take care of the light headed and also get you the few extra calories you need. Remember to be around 600 calories a day. I have stalled again. I know it is because of what I am not eating and need to start getting religious again about the protein and less carbs (I love homemade soups, which is great, but I eat the saltines to go with, which is a no no).
Best of luck. It is hard to find others with lap band, so please feel free to contact me anytime.
Kelly
