im 2 weeks and 3 days out of my laproscopic gastric bipass surgery. im having trouble sleeping and some days i feel so soar. friday was a bad day for me. my abdomen hurt bad. i just want to know....is this normal. i just dont feel right...its weird. i thought i would be much better by now. i've never had major surgery and maybe im just pushing myself. i dont know. i dont see my surgeon again until nov 9th. that will be my 6 week check up. im on the puree diet now and its ok, getting used to it. i still cant sleep on my sides or stomach and still sleeping on my couch or recliner. tried the bed again last night and it just makes me soar and for some reason gives me a headache. i've got a 3 year old at home and tomorrow i begin my journey alone with him....im scared. can anyone give me some encouraging words....when am i going to be more comfortable? thanks guys

Dana, First congrats on your surgery. Let's see your less than three weeks post op girl, you have to give it time, you just had major surgery, even if it was Lap. You insides are all moved around, and your probably still fighting with gas pains from them blowing you up to do it Lap. They say it take a good three months to heal totally in the inside too. Don't try to sleep in bed. I slept in the reclyiner for 6 weeks, and that was ok!! I'd say YES, you are over doing it. Baby steps, just like your new eatting habit, it will take awhile for get back in the game and before you feel like yourself again. As for your little guy. I know he is three, but explain to him that you had an operation, and you can do the stuff you could for a little while, but as you heal you'll be able to do more and more with him. Try fun activities he can do beside you in a chair, or for the time being, let the TV help you out. Show him your bandaids and tell them thats where it hurts, so he doesn't jump on you. You'd be suprised they understand more than we give them credit for. Good luck with your recovery Dawn in Milwaukee 342/150

I had my surgery on August 25th and I'm just now starting to feel normal again. So, since you had yours about a month after mine, you should be feeling better any day now. Don't push yourself! I was able to get a lot of rest and that has helped. If I had pushed myself, I don't think I would be feeling better now. You need to take care of yourself and that means getting a lot of rest. I know we're supposed to be walking and exercising, but you also need to repair and heal. As for the 3 year old, I don't know about that. Sounds like a lot of work to me. All I can say is hang in there and take care of yourself. It does get better! The best of luck to you! Joni from Alabama, who is traveling around tonight.
