Hi everyone...I am wanting this surgery so badly...I am putting things into place but my last remaining problem is insurance...its a really long story as to why I dont have it or why I cant get it at work....but I am going to be moving and there wouldnt be time to get on the insurance at work to get the surgery in time before my move...I live in Wisconsin and I need a good insurance company that cover's WLS that is for individuals....not a company policy...I had Blue Cross for a bit but they sent me a letter saying they were no longer covering WLS and about that time was when I found out I could get insurance at work and then found out about the move so it just sucks.....does anyone have any idea's for me on what insurance company I could get health insurance through that does individual insurance and covers WLS????? I will end up in Madison WI for my surgery so any suggestions on doctors there would be helpful....Thanks all.... Kim [email protected]

I'm not real helpful on teh insurance end. As for surgeons... I'm from the Madison area. There are 4 surgeons here in Madison. They work in "couples" There are The UW Drs. And Dean/St. Mary's Docs. Of course...I would highly suggest the Dr.s that I went threw - Dr. Sunby/Huepenbecker from the St.Mary's Dean Clinics. Feel free to email me for any questions, help, thoughts ect ect. I LOVE Sunby dearly!! It also helps he is good looking. haha. No..really he is a very sweet man, who wants nothing but the best turn out for his patients. Even though the "team" can be a bit of a drag - theya re wonderful also. They are extremely BUSY and overworked - thus for some of the lag time. My suggestion...keep on them. The ol' saying "how bad do you want it?"....Well, I really really wanted it...and thus I stayed right on the curt-tails. Take Care, Gala PS...St. Mary's also does the LAP Band and RNY (open and LAP)

I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance and was approved after the first letter was sent out by my doctor's office. The only things they required are that the surgery be medically necessary and that I pass the psychological evaluation. I don't know if Blue Cross is the same as Blue Cross/Blue Shield, but BCBS covers WLS under the above cir****tances. Another alternative for you, if you don't have access to insurance through your employer, is to apply for BadgerCare. I've heard they have some strict requirements for covering WLS, but that it is possible. Good luck to you ... I hope you find something that works for you.

Did you try to click on "Insurers" to the left of our message board box? I found a lot of information in there. Don't give up. I have Wausau Benefits, but it is through a company policy. There were **** ants at first, but after my 8 page appeal letter with an inch in a half of records was sent, I was approved. Hang in there and keep trying!!!
