Hi can anyone tell me why people that had lap band aren't supposed to drink carbonated beverages? I can't wreck the band, the band is on the outside of the stomach? Is it just because it fills you up so you don't want to eat?

Hiya Elizabeth My doc said that carbinated beverages were ok after a few weeks as long as they are tolerated ok and are diet. They can be drank 30 minutes before each meal or 90 minutes after. I hope this helps some. Take Care, Joely

Hi Elizabeth, Carbonation and caffeine, two common ingredients in diet sodas, are known gastric irritants. I haven't tried it but a friend who was banded drank soda and it didn't agree with her. They also, seriously, set off hunger cravings - one of the benefits of the preop and liquid diet is that you get de-toxed from all the crap you were eating, in my opinion. I have been known to enjoy a cup of coffee once or twice a week now that my stomach has healed from the surgery, but I spent too much money on my surgery to go down the path Diet Dew took me on ever again! When I do enjoy the coffee, I need to drink it early in the morning and have breakfast mid morning so I can get through my noon walk before I eat lunch. It has that much effect on me! The cravings and hunger kick in. Yours in pounds down, Jen

Hi my doc told me that carbonated drinks actually stretch the pouch and that they were off limits all together.
