I Need Help... I am Losing My Hair...
Hi
I am 5 mos out of surgery...and I am very happy with my results so far---82 llbs gone forever....It sure feels good to be on the losing side...except I am losing my hair! Does anyone out there know of any supplements that would keep this under control???
I read in an earlier post about "BIOTIN" helping...but I don't know how much to take daily and if anyone has had any experience with "biotin" please...let me know how it worked...or anything else that might help ...I am deperate! My husband doesn't want me to cut my hair as it is down below my butt cheeks in length ...But...I don't want long thin scraggely hair....HELP PLEASE... Thanks----Melody Z in Merrill,Wisconsin
Hi Melody,
My hair loss started at 3mos. and has now slowed down quite a bit.
I was taking 1000mcg of Biotin daily, and I am using Nioxin shampoo & cond. I had thick hair to begin with, so my hair loss is not noticeable (Knock on wood). Just keep your hair trimmed and make sure you get your protein in and you should be ok! Congrats on your weight loss and keep up the good work!!!

Hi Chris....thanks for the quick reply....I started to take Biotin two days ago...1000 mcg...where do you get nioxin shampoo? and what is it exactly? Protein base ?what in it makes a difference in hair loss?
I also seen my Dr. today and he suggested knox gelatin...this is all good...Thanks again for your quick response...I was really getting paraniod here....I too-started with real thick hair and people still tell me it's beautiful all the time, but I know I've been losing hair so it's kinda got me scared.I do the best I can with protein...but you know how easy that is! I am experimenting with protein powders ..bars etc.Yuck..well thanks again...Mel Z.

Hi Mel,
If you go to Nioxin.com you can read all about it. You can buy Nioxin at most hair salons. It is kind of expensive though, but i was willing to try anything to avoid hair loss.
Have you tried Detour protein bars? They have 15 grams of protein and are pretty good. The only place i have seen them is Sam's and Wal-Mart.
Chris
Hi Again...Yes the detour bars are good ...I did get some from "Wally World" and their not bad.I found some with 19 and 20 grams of protein (blueberry and chocolate)and I kinda got burned out on them I think because... they don't taste as good as they did in the beginning.I noticed I am constantly needing new tastes even in regular food.Leftovers just don't have the same "PIZAZZ" as they used to....weird....and I know my tastes have changed...sometimes eating just doesn't seem worth the bother--I sit down to eat and after the first bite I think---thats not what I wanted...is this normal?
Well thanks again Chris...as soon as I can figure it out ---I will get some pic's on the website -- I know it make's it nice if you kinda can get an idea of who your're talking to...Until then...Take Care---Always--Mel Z.
Melody...
I see we are practically neighbors....Anyhow...have you tried homemade protein shakes? I have learned when I start loosing hair, I am not getting my protein in...here is how I have breakfast because I like my coffee...and we cant eat or drink 1/2 before or after anything....I either get unflavored or vanilla protein powder from either Walmart or GNC...
I use 1/2 cup skim milk, 1 scoop of protein powder, fresh fruit of any kind you like, 1 container of yogurt Bluebunny Carb Freedom, a a few ice cubes if I didnt freeze my fresh fruit...mix in a blender real well...and walla....1 scoop of protein is normally between 17-20 grams!!! Another little tip...you can make a bigger batch and freeze 1/2 of it...so you have ice cream!
Experiment with flavors....I even like...are you ready...??? I take coffee, milk, banana, chocolate syrup (sugar free of course) and yogurt and ice and do the same thing....you can add a little peanut butter with the yogurt, ice, chocolate as well...
I also add flax oil to these, you will never know it is in there either...and it is so good for you.....
Hope some of this helps.

HI Lora...Thank You for the reply of such good ideas....I guess I need to get more inventive! A nurse at work picked me up some vanilla powder at the gym and I just need to pick it up...I will try these ideas they sound great...and I love coffee too!! Super!
It sounds like you have done real well after your surgery...congratulations!
I can't wait to be at goal ...I cleaned out my closet yesterday and I am finding clothes that didn't fit me (but now do)in the "back of the closet" and thats a great feeling!!!I was also very fulfilling to take the big cothes out for good...some of them I bought and never wore because I didn't feel like I looked good in them...Halleluyahhh!!!
Well Lora it's wonderful that you gave me these ideas if you have anymore please post them as I would really appreciate any others and they may help others too....Thank You Again---Always--Mel Z.
Melody,
Another good thing for hairloss is jello. I would mix the s/f jello with water and an unflavored protein mix. Jello has a different type of protein in it and it worked wonders for me. My hairstylist gave me this tip. It also works wonders for your fingernails. I had my hair cut shorter for the time being. It is now just past shoulder length again.
