Just wanted to share with you all briefly my kidney stone experience. I just had 1 very large stone blasted out of my kidney. They have determined the stone was from high protein foods such as peanuts and beans. They also felt that the gastric bypass I had contributed to the stone forming due to the malabsorption etc that happens. My doctor says he is seeing this happen more often in gastric bypass patients. The doctors suggestion was to watch the level of peanuts and beans I eat but most importantly to increase and maintain alot of fluids. Water, juice, diet soda etc. The more fluids you have running in your system the less likely a stone will form. So words of advice that we already know, DRINK LOTS OF WATER before, during and after surgery. Take care. Vicky

Vicky, I had my stone in April... I don't think I've ever wretched so much in my life. I had to wait for it to pass about 3 weeks later. Since it was never caught, we don't know whether it was calcium or uric acid. This was my 2nd one. Most likely it was due more to dehydration than anything. My primary has me taking added magnesium which helps prevent the stones from forming. My urologist is encouraging the water with additional lemon. I use something called True Lemon and it adds to the acidity which also helps prevent the stones from forming. He also recommended the other flavored waters. Neither of them felt it was from overdoing the calcium/protein, and they believe it's actually a misnomer.
