Hi! My name is Kathy J. I had surgery on July 12, 2004. The first 6 weeks went well. Then I developed diarrhea and nausea. It is now 10 months out and I still have diarrhea and have no control of my bowels. I have been in depends since surgery. I have been diagnosed with malnutrition and vitamin deficiency. I also have sever knee and ankle pain. I have seen several specialist for gastroendocology and rheumatoid arthritis. Through a colonoscopy I was told I have colitis. I have been checked for Spurs or celiac disease and all test have come back as negative. The arthritis doctor says all the leg pain is due to metabolic deficiency. I have just had a scoping of the pouch and small intestine and am waiting for results from biopsies. Has any one had similar problems?

Yep, I had nauseau from about a month out till around 3 months out. It was a B1 deficiency and if it goes undetected it can cause neourological problems, double vision, vertigo(nauseau), and loss of leg use. I was in a wheel chair for a couple of weeks. Have they tested your B1 level yet? You can take B1 anyways a head of time if they have not. Any excess goes out in your urine. They had me taking 3 pills which was 300 miligrams a day. They first gave me a shot of it in the emergency room, and by that night I was seeing normal again no double vision. Did you have your surgery at Dean??
