Is this a common problem?

I am two weeks out of surgery and am experiencing problems with bowel movements. Gas isn't a problem but having a bowel movement just isn't happening. I get in 64 oz of water a day and am eating strictly according to the dieticians instructions. Anything I can do or take? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

My doc said benefiber but keep in mind if you are still on liquids you won't have as much to have a BM as you did before. Hope this helps

Good Evening, You know when my dh had his surgery last June he did have the same problem. His surgery was 3 weeks before mine and I remember very vividly thinking while in the ER w/him "YOU BETTER NOT HAVE COMPLICATIONS and make my surgery become postponed"... They gave him 2 enama's in the hospital and sent him home on a laxative. He still has problems with constipation. I on the other hand have not had problems. Before taking a laxative give Lauren a call. For me I had the opposite problem and Lauren kept tellingme "think of what you are taking in...liquid" Anyway, I would run it by them and get the okay to take something for the constipation. Good Luck. Gala

I have to take stool softeners daily or I would be in big trouble . I take generic Colace gel caps, 4 in the a.m. and 4 in the p.m. Occasionally that fails to move things along nicely, so I take 1 generic Correctol. Hope this helps, Sue O.
