Scared
I'm getting scared...I think I am eating too much. I did the cottage cheese test where you get up and take one cup of cottage cheese and see how much you can eat. Then you can tell how big your stomach is. I ate about 2/3 of a cup. As soon as I was feeling full, I quit eating. So do you think that is a lot? I mean, I felt hungry shortly after that and had a small banana. I'm so scared about all of this. I have worked so hard for this and feel so good. I keep looking at my weight pic journal to see the difference in me from when I started to now for support. I also go to classes for support. I have battled blood clots and I have to go in April to see if they are gone yet, so exercise is limited. I just want to talk with someone about how they are doing after being 6 months post op. Thanks for any help!
Hi Toni
I am sorry that you have been having so many problems. I'm not post-op yet, but if you need someone to talk to, feel free Also, I'd love to check out your photo journal. I am hoping to have an RNY in July or August, and find everyones stories so interesting. I'm a recent transplant to WI, but I think I am only like an hour or an hour and a half away from you (Wausau).
Well, take care - and good luck!

Toni,
First of all congrats on the big step.
My name is Michele and I am from Plymouth, WI. I had surgery 8/6/2004. I had Dr. Thomas Geocaris out of Bellin. I really like him and his staff. I am almost 8 months out. I had RXY.
The beauty of the surgery is your body will tell you if you ate too much or ate something you were not supposed to by making you either ill (throwing up ill) or make you feel like you are having a hot flash (warm flush feeling which leads to a very quick trip to the bathroom for bowel evacuation).
You should eventually start eating more. But as the weight comes off your exercise should increase as well. You will be more active to wear the extra caloric intake. Just keep track of what you eat and how much you exercise to make sure you have a good balance.
As for me for the first time since surgery on March 22, 2005 while on a train ride in Canada I had a 1/2 of an egg salad sandwich. First time for bread for me, that actually stayed down.
I look back and see that right around the 6-month mark I was able to eat an entire 6-ounce can of yogurt in one sitting.
I am drinking 60+ ounces of water each day. Crystal Light and Wal-Mart has an additive of sorts that comes in a "stick like packet" that is calorie and carb free, but adds wonderful flavor to your water. I like the lemon aide, and peach tea. The raspberry ice is "ok" too.
I find that I am on a routine of sorts and eat, or as I call it - graze, every couple of hours. Here's a typical day:
5:00 AM. I get up; take my Flintstones, Viactive and Papaya Enzyme (helps with digestive process and they are chewable). 16-ounce bottle of water and Gazelle for 30 minutes. Then it's the Ab Lounger for 100 sit-ups.
5:45 - 1/2 cup cereal or one packet of Cream of Wheat.
7:30 - 4 ounce cup of applesauce (Mott's flavored stuff is awesome)
9:30 - 3-4 ounces of cheese, nuts, beef jerky or flavored rice cakes
12:00 - 4 - 8 ounces of soup with 1 club cracker
2:00 - 3-4 ounces of cheese, nuts, beef jerky or flavored rice cakes
3:30 - Flintstones and Viactive
5:30 - Small Salad, 1/2 sandwich, Snack size Pastie (they are about 1/2 the size of your palm), or 4 - 6 ounces meat/veggie casserole
7:30 - yogurt, popcorn, fresh fruit or fresh vegetable.
I sip water from the time I get up to the time I go to bed. I average 64 + ounces a day. Sometimes I feel like I slosh when I walk.
I usually hit the bed about 9:30 or 10:00.
I am very please with how things have gone for me so far. I started in a size 22 on a 5'3" frame. I am now comfortably in a size 12. 81# down.
Keep up the great work!!
Michele
