All depends on where you go and what type of WLS you have. My DH's surgery was in June with Dr. Rebchook in Platteville WI - The costs so far have been around $18,000. His surgery was Open RNY. Small town hospital, small town doctor. Results - the same My surgery was 3 weeks later in July. So far the bills still coming. I had to have my gall bladder removed also and it is on the upward end of $30,000 (gall bladder was only about $2000). I spent 5 days in the hospital. Had to have 2 ultrasounds and 1 CAT scan post op for "possible complications". My surgery was LAP RNY. Really all depends on where you go. Remember if you have complications your insurance company will pay NOTHING. Not a dime. So there are lots to think about. And complications could be simple like mine....2 days xtra in the hospital because my bladder didn't "wake" up after surgery and bladder infection. Where are you thinking about going? Gala

Hi Patty, I know some people are self-pay, but I want you to be very aware of something. They may give you a "price" or an "estimate", but remember that complications can arise causing your bill to go way up. I was one of those who had complications and I won't even tell you what my bill was!! Luckily I had insurance that covered 100%. Please consider this when considering being a self-pay patient. Is there any chance you can find insurance through an employer or perhaps even state funded insurance (Badgercare or Title 19)? Happy holidays to you! Traci

Hi Patty, I don't have my bills yet, but my surgeon told me it runs about $35,000. That was at Froedert. I was in for 3 days, had a lap RNY, and no complications. Good luck to you. Marsha

Hi Patty, I'm going to UW Health systems, with Dr. Garren, I haven't had surgery yet & my insurance covers the surgery 100%, but I was told at the informational meeting that without insurance it runs around $30,000. Good Luck, Dawn

In Madison, I paid the following: $21,000 for the hospital, St. Marys (20% discount from amount quoted for insured patients) $8,500 for the Doctor(s), Dean Care (30% discount from amount quoted for insured patients)
