Surgery next week and I have a cold!!!!

I am scheduled for surgery on Dec. 9th. Yesterday I started with the sniffles and today I have a full blown cold. I'm sneezing, coughing, my ear aches, chills. I'm so scared that my surgery will have to be postponed!!! I called my surgeons office and they said that if I'm not better by Friday, to call my PCP. She said it sounds like the virus that's going around. I have so much going on right now. On Monday I'm getting the IVC filter inserted. Then Thursday is my big day. I started taking eccinachea (sp??), zinc, and Vit. C. Does anyone have any suggestions about what else might help me head this off before it gets really bad? All my colds settle in my chest, and I end up coughing my brains out!! I can't have this right now!!!!! I'm panicing here!!! Please HELP!!! Marsha

Hi Marsha, I was just lurking and found your post very interesting. I have seen many pre op's post the same thing you did. The sooner they get to their surgery date they developed colds and was concerned if it would delay their surgery. A wls Dr. on the Ohio forum responded to a post and said that as long as the patient does not have a temp. he would proceed with the surgery. I guess this would depend on the surgeon. I wonder if this has to do anything with stress? Well I hope that you feel better soon and best wishes to you on your special day. Take care, Georgeann
