Well my appointment went well with my surgon, i am a good canidate for surgury. The nurse asked about my insurance, I told her Managed health and she said that this insuranace group requires 6 months of documented weight loss. I was really happy that she told me this instead of having to wait 6 months andd then have them tell me that!! So, i have my appointment with my gp on the 10th........My surgon said i should be able to have this proceedure done in early May!! At least its not a no........I am very happy...than u everyone!!

Pam, Congrats on your first step to a new you the wait is so worth it. This is just a thought but my insurer said the same thing they wanted 6 months to 1 year of consistant weight loss history & failures and proff of 10 years of weight gain and comorbidities. What I did was write and doccument all of my weight loss tries such as weight training, Jenny Craig, OTC medications and diffrent diets I have tried over the years with little or no results and full gain back. After this letter and 3 month of supervised Dietician appointments I was approved after a lengthy appeal process. This is just a thought for you to ponder but it may speed things up for you a little Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress. Pj Manning

Congrats Pam. I have the same kind of requirement in my insurance, and my doctor sent me to the cardiac nutrition program at the hospital here. After 6 months we submitted the records to the insurance (Cigna) and they said that since the program used a nutritionist rather then my doctor for the monthly weigh-ins it wasn't "medically supervised". Make sure you get clarification from the insurance company what they consider to be supervised so that you are ready to present the information in May. The good news is that my GP is as upset as I was, and wrote a letter that she was following my progress and that the program is a medically supervised program. We have now sent that to the insurance and we will see what they come up with next.
