First congrats on making the first step. Is it normal to feel gasy? YEP!! I thought for sure the neighbors could hear my belly. And my go**** hurt so much. This will pass. Protein Supplements -- DON'T stress over it right now. Your BIGGEST concern needs to remember to get in fluids. Your new belly is very swollen. It doesn't want to have things in it. If you sip 1 oz every 15 min. you will A: stay hydrated and B: get little bit of what you need. Every day it will get better. Belly rumbling -- I thought "how can I be hungry" I learned and so did my dh (we had our surgeries 3 weeks apart) that it was gas. A different type of gas. You may not have lost weight right now. Between the IV therapy and the swelling in your body it is very normal to gain weight after surgery. But you will know when it comes. Today take 2 more steps towards the mailbox, or the dresser or outside. And tomorrow 1 more, and 1 more after that. before you know it you will be down -20lbs and 1 mon. post op. Hang in there Lisa. The first month was SOOOO hard. My head told me to eat. But my "body" said get away. The one thing that I can't stress is to try your hardest to do the 1 oz every 15 min. If you fall asleep for 2 hrs and you get behind. Well...try not to worry about it. Just make up what you can. Again.....Congrats on gettiing this far. I am 3 mon. post op. -63 lbs. I have had some problems along the way> But I would do this in a heart beat all over again!! Gala

I am 5 weeks post-op, and it seemed like the gass was growing worse day by day, so I contacted my nurse, and she gave me some great medical advice. The answer for me was Lactate tables. I never thought I could be lactose intolerant, since I had not been in the past. Heck a half gallon of ice cream went down well. I'm still gassy but no where near as bad and uncomfortable as it was. You might want to give it a try. Good luck, and hang in there. Patrice
