Hi there, just wanted to pop on and introduce myself. I am a recent arrival in wisconsin and am debating having WLS. I work at a hospital, and see alot of post op problems from WLS, so it has me a bit scared...but I know that for every patient that I see, there are hundreds of healthy satisfied ones. Anyhoo, I have done the diet yo-yo for YEARS, am 34 and just at the end of my rope. I have lost 60 lbs this year doing super low carb/low cal and I am SO sick of it. I just know that within a month or two (probably for the holidays, cuz thats how it usually works) I'll take some time "off" from the diet then end up gaining back every last pound. I still need to lose about 150 lbs...even after losing the 60, and it's very daunting. *sigh* Can anyone reccomend a surgeon in the wausau area? ~Christy

Hi Cristy: I just had surgery in Wausau on Tuesday with Dr. Matt Johnson at the Marshfield Clinic. I would highly recommend him. He was terrific. I had lap RNY and could have come home the next day. Do a lot of research and find out the procedure that is best for you. Thats what I did. Best of Luck. Debbie

By Golly Debbie, we were probably just down the hall from eachother! I had surgery in Wausau on Wednesday 9/29. I saw Dr. Johnson walking through the halls in the mornings too....he was probably going to see you! Small world huh? I wish I would have known before going in, I'd have popped in and said hello. Crystal, WOW I am so happy to hear your surgery went well. I haven't posted in a while because I have just been so busy with my new life. Since I talked to you on the phone that time I have lost a total of 145lbs since surgery on Dec 3rd; I am working really hard now to lost my full 200 by my Dec date but if i dont I will just keep plugging away. I am glad to hear you liked Dr Weiland he is a great guy and I have been so happy with all his attentiveness. I go back to see him on Dec 7th for my yearly check up and I did have one small problem from the sugery I have another hernia that has to be taken care of but he said we will talk about that later, when I decide about skin removal. Well I am so happy to hear your doing well. If you need anything just email me. As for the others that have had surgery in Wausau its a great place and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Christy, I heard dr Matt Johnson was real good. I Lived in Wausau for 10 years up until last April when I went thru divorce. I worked at Wausau Hospital. Just research which type will be best for you. Hope everything goes your way. I am scheduled for surgery (open) 10/21/04 in Milwaukee.

Dr. Brebeck, who is Dr. Johnson's partner at Marshfield clinic is the best! He has done more surgeries than Wieland and for years longer. He is great. I had the surgery a year ago yesterday. Everything went great.

Christy, I feel your pain. I once lost 63 lbs only to regain plus some. In my lifetime I have probably lost 2 people.....and gained it all back. It's sad isn't it? I have been considering WLS for 3 or 4 years. Actually, I mentioned it to my PCP nearly 10 years ago, but he was very much against it. He has finally come around. Anyway, I live in Sheboygan and am hopefully having my surgery at Froedert in Milwaukee with Dr. Wallace. He has a very well thought out program that really impressed me. He even has a 5 year follow-up program. I have passed all the tests and am awaiting approval. I see you're from Wausau. We drive thru there everytime we take our daughter to school at UW Eau Claire. We have stopped at Emma Krumbes and another place that is like a 50's diner for a break and a meal. Any other suggestions on a good place to stop right off the highway? I wish us both luck in our WLS journey. Marsha
