I would like to know if you had a RNY or Lap band procedure and MOST OF ALL "What made you decide to have the procedure you chose?" Thanks in advance to whomever answers this!

Hello: I am having a lap RNY on Tuesday. I was strongly thinking of the lap band but did not have the confidence in that procedure like I have in the RNY. I only want to do this once and wanted to give myself the best advantage. Keep researching and you will find the procedure you feel comfortable with. Good luck. Deb

Hello both me and my wife have had the rny lap. We chose this because less scaring. I know its trivial but we just didnt want a huge scar. It also usaly has less recovery time. I dont know much about the band other than it just restricts the amount of food you can eat. The rny has malabsorbsion built in. So basicaly you absorb less of the food you eat also. We chose this because we have seen and talked to people that have had it with great results. I think the lap bander have to go in every so often and get refilled. Not sure what this means but I talked to a guy the other day who just had it done. I guess it hurts a little and made him feel like he had bad stomache cramps. I have had no problems from my surgery to date. If you want more information about the lap bad check out there board. Ask them what they think? I'm really glad I have had my surgery. Derrick

I'm hoping to do the lap band. It is the least invasive and doesn't re-route the plumbing. There tend to be a lot fewer complications too. I'm also looking into the future and the benefit it will be even once at a goal, to get the band adjust to deter any additional gains.

I had LapRNY. I chose this because I thought it was the procedure that would work best for me. I had read stories on this board about people who could outeat their band. I felt I needed dumping as a "tool" if you wll to help me modify my bad eating behaviors that got me to obese. I don't regret it for a moment.

I had lap RNY and am very happy with it. There are so many different types out there. I discussed it with my surgeon and he was the one *****commended the rny, stating that it is the best in his mind and in research. It was almost a year ago that I had that conversation, and I can't give you specifics, but what he said stuck with me enough to put my utmost trust in him. I had mine done in Wausau with Drs. Alden and Weiland. (Alden did the surgery, weiland assisted - they do that for ALL the surgeries, so if something should happen, you have 2 qualified surgeons working on the problem!) Hope this helps...if you can do it in Wausau, do it! It is the best program out there! mags

Both my husband and I chose the band - we felt it fit our lifestyle the best - we still like to have an ocassional piece of chocolate and the band lets us eat more normally. It is a tool and some people can "beat the band" if they try, but you have to want this to work for you. We also want to try to get pregnant after our surgeon gives the okay and if/when I get pregnant, they can empty my band of it's saline and I can take in all the nutrients I need to have a healthy and safe pregnancy, delivery, and baby. Good luck to you on your journey and pick the right surgery for you Amy Banded 7/14/04 346/286/170ish Christopher Banded 6/11/04 408/337/225

I chose the Lap Band because it is an outpatient surgery... a quick post-op recovery... adjustable... completely reversible... allows my body to absorb nutrients as it was designed to... and less complications. My sister had the RNY and watching her recovery was enough to let me know that I was not up to going through what she experienced. She is now almost 2 years post-op and is having trouble with weight gain... as time goes on, the dumping syndrome decreases and or a person can learn how much and how often they can eat something sweet without dumping... some people do not have dumping at all. Basically... the RNY is a tool just as the Band and can be defeated if a person really wants to do so. I am so happy the the banding option was available for me as I just didn't have the "guts" to go forth with the RNY. Wishing you the best with whichever choice you make for yourself!

Hi! I had Lap RNY on 12/13/02 and I chose that surgery because I knew that my willpower wasn't going to be much help to me! I needed something that would "remind" me that I can't eat the bad stuff. I've been around 150 lbs for more than a year already and can eat pretty normally but still have to be very careful with sweets and fried foods - which are my demons! So, it works beautifully for me and I'd do it again in a heartbeat! Hope this helps! Lori

I'm hoping to have have lapband surgery, which I chose because of the quicker recovery time. Bottom line is that I cannot take off much time from work. Plus, the "less invasive" operation sounds more appealing to me.
