what is a sleep study and what do they do?
Depending on where your insurance takes you, you will be on an overnighter at the hospital. They have you come in in the evening, they hook you up to all sorts of sensors and moitor your sleep that evening. You will get to go home around 6am the next day. Its not bad, doesnt hurt, just time consumming.
Hi Kristal, Debbie's post is similar to my experience. I was fortunate and didn't have any episodes of apnea during the night, so I needed to stay the next day also for nap studies. Basically they just continued to monitor me for my scheduled naps throughout the day. Usually 4 or 5 naps, I had 4. I went home about 4 pm that afternoon after spending the night. Not at all scary, in fact I found it quite relaxing. Nothing to be worked up about. If you have any more questions, please don't hestitate to ask. Good luck!! Shelly
I had a sleep study done last weekend. Apparently I had several episodes of apnea, and did have to have the mask put on in the middle of the night There was no mention of a nap study...but I would have been game if they had mentioned it!! Now I'm just waiting for my appointment on the 6th to go over the results of the sleep study. I'm just really concerned how this will affect my surgery, and if it could change my date.
