Kristal, What was the meeting you went to. For my surgeon --- he holds an information session once a month, then you have a one-on-one consultation visit with him... then you need to get clearance from the dietitian staff and a psychiatrist. After that he writes a letter of medical necessity and in goes in for insurance approval. When approval come back a surgery date is scheduled and any pre-op tests that may be needed. Depending on problems you have related to your obesity or cadidacy for surgery, such as a colonoscopy, EGD, lung function test, cardiac stress test, sleep study, the list could go on and on... Surgery date is set. Then just get ready. kat

Krystal, Did you go to the informational meeting for Dr. Georgan and Wasco in Neenah???? If so... they genrally have you fill out papers in an informational packet and they usually tell you how to go about starting the process???? My sister had the RNY done in Neenah and they were extremely helpful. Darcy

Kristal, You need to get more information on everything before you go any farther. You need to consult your primary care physician to see if you are a fit canidate for the surgery, if you are you will need to get a letter of medical necessity and have it submitted. An appt needs to be made with the surgeon and depending where you live and what surgeon you go through there is alot of other things that come first before you can get any type of approval. Questions to ask yourself are: 1. Is your BMI over 40? 2. Can you adapt to a total and 100% lifestyle change? 3. Can you commit to vitamins for life? 4. Can you commit to exercise? 5. Do you have a support system? This surgery is not an easy way out. It is major surgery and has a minimum of 4-6 week recovery time and depending on surgeons the diet afterwards is very strict and slow as you heal and progress. There is alot of things to consider before you move forward but first thing you need to do is make an appt with your Dr. Cheri

If you have MA, is your HMO NHP or Touchpoint? If its Touchpoint, you can go to the doctors at Theda Clark for the operation. If your HMO is NHP, the only network doctor you can go to is Dr. Mikkelson in Fond Du Lac. For your required psych evaluation, Doctors Wasco or Gerogon can refer you directly if you have Touchpoint. If you have NHP, Dr. Neunaber at the Madison St. clinic is very good. Expect delays in your approval. Make sure that your family doctor has; besides obesity, other forms of medical nessecities to back up you going in for this operation. Things like high blood pressure, or elevated blood sugars. There are many other things you can use too. Any other questions, please, feel free to email me.

Hi Kristal- I was just at Midwest Bariatric Solutions meeting this week. If it was 8 months ago that you went you might want to call Dr. Georgen's or Dr.Wasco's office to let them know you are still interested. "I think" I heard them say they keep your information that you filled out at the meeting for six months. You might want to let them know you are still interested so they dont get rid of your information. P.S. Dr. Neunaber is excellent! (regarding psych eval) but he is a cool guy! Good Luck!
