I am willing to take pointers from anyone regarding what needs to be in my letter to the insurance company? Thanks in advance!

Are you writing a letter for an appeal or an initial letter to go with the paperwork from your physician? Have you gotten a copy of the criteria from your insurance company? If you have when you write your letter be direct and right to the point and address each criteria point with facts and any medical documentation that you have. If you meet all criteria exact it should go smoothly. Good Luck Cheri

Hey Cheri!! What's up!! Man, it was sure good to meet you last week. My day went so good that day that I don't think I drove home...I floated!! This has been such a fantastic experience. I am so thankful for the chance to make my life better, my relationships with my family and friends better and to meet so many new and great people!! It was so exciting to meet someone else who has had this done and to see that they are having excellent results. How did your appt. go?? Keep me posted and I think that the next time I get up there, for sure in December but hopefully sooner, we should all get together and have mini lunch or just a get together to get to know each other!! You take care now and be good to yourself...K-Man By the way, I don't remember the name of the woman you were talking to that day. I want to say Barb, but I don't know if that is right. Do you know if she has a profile yet or not?? If not, you have to get on that woman and have her get one up so we can all get to know her. Thanks kiddo..K-Man

Unfortunately I do believe I am beating a dead horse from the get go. My insurance has an exclusion stating they do not pay for any obesity treatments or bariatric surgery or complications of bariatric surgery. That is why I was inquiring about letter writing. I already know they wont pay. I have read some of the posts that say maybe because I am considered "morbid' (I hate that term) obese then that is different. Im just sooo nervous. I havent even been to the first meeting yet and now wonder if I am wasting their time by going for them to just tell me sorry your insurance wont pay!??! Did you ever want something so bad you can taste it??? for once this is something I can taste that "doesnt" have calories!!

Hi there. Your insurance company did not write the exclusion, your employer did. You will want to contact your human resource person or the person who makes the contract with the insurance company and ask them to waive the exclusion by contacting the insurance company and asking them to waive the exclusion. Typically, the insurance company determines medical necessity but doe not determine benefits, that is left to the employer. I work with insurance companies everyday for a surgeon that does Bariatric surgery. This has been my experience. Hang in there!! The other option you have is to purchase your own insurance. Pricey... but worth it. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Stephanie. Do you think it would be of any benefit if I had a doctor write a letter with support before I contacted them or just contacted them on my own? Unfortunately I cannot get other insurance because they turn me down because of my height and weight and due to the fact that I am able to get coverage through my husbands work. Thanks again!

Hi D P. I would be happy to send you a copy of my letter I wrote if you would like. I can try to e-mail it to you if I can figure how to get it from one computer w/out e-mail to a computer with it!! Otherwise, I can mail it to you. I do not know if you are fighting a denial or if this is the first contact you will have with them though. That info. would be helpful to know. Also, do you have a profile we can take a look at?? If not, please consider doing so. It is nice to be able to get to know one another if even a little bit while we are all going through the same thing. You take care now and be good...K-Man
