I was just wondering if you had to have a NG tube after lap RNY? That is one of my questions. Also do you have a catheter? Thanks, Lori

Hi Lori I had a catheter, but i am not sure about the ng tube. Most times if everything goes well, they take it out before you wake up.

I had an NG tube for 24 hrs. after surgery. However, I had an open RNY not lap. Not sure if that makes a difference or not. Each surgeon does his/her own "thang." Call and ask them. I'm fairly certain everyone has a cath. They need to monitor your fluid intake v elimination. I personally love them.....course I've had 7 surgeries in the past 20 yrs, so I'm kinda used to them. Good luck!!

Yes you will have a catheter. Most likely till the morning after your surgery. For me I had problems w/my bladder so it had to go back in. As for the NG tube - every doctor is different. Who is your Dr? Gala
