Hi I am new to the site. I have found out that my insurance doesnt cover anything to do with obesity surgery or complications of. I was turned down today by another insurance because of my height and weight. Just wondering are all of you out there having the surgery self paying or are your insurances covering the surgery? Thanks!

My insurance companied denied my request for surgery. I can't afford $20,000 our of pocket, so I'm going to appeal this thing until they get sick of me. I'm new to this site also, and sorry Ican't remember how I got there exactly, but I was able to go to a link on the site that listed insurance in Wisconsin and printed off 22 pages of people who had gotten the procedure approved (most of them anyway) through the same insurance company that denied my claim. Of those 22 pages, I found 30 people who had gotten the approval after the insurance company wrote the exclusion into their policy. You can bet that information is going into my appeal letter! I don't know what else to tell you other than don't give up. We all deserve a chance to have a healthier and longer life span. Best of luck to you! Carmen

My insurance company (Deancare)has a written exclusion policy. I am aving surgery October 12th and have to pay all of it out of pocket. They said some day they may pay for it but not for a while and I am tired of waiting. Good Luck Lori

I would double check with your HR dept on this. Is there an exclusion for just obesity or does it also encompass morbid obesity? There is a fine line that you can work around sometimes to get it approved. If you have medical backup you can write a letter to the insurance board of Wisconsin to intervene on your behalf. C * The average cost for surgery at Bellin in GB is $18-$19 thousand.
