Door County
Hi Wisconsinites!!! My DH and I went to Door County for the day yesterday. I was amazed at how dead it was there. I remember going there a couple years ago and the traffic was amazing and the shops were so crowded that you could barely get around in them.
Yesterday, barely any people walking around from shop to shop and not any traffic, and plenty of parking spaces. I was amazed. It was nice, but I would hate to see a decline of tourism there....I love the place and want it to thrive.
Anyone else been up there and if so, how was it for you?
Marsha
Hi Sue,
I thought of that...but every single place we went to was employed by what appeared to be Russian women. Seems that for the past few years, they have been unable to find enough employees and end up hiring overseas.
The other thing I noticed was very few sales!! I was hoping to get some nice bargains.....but there were none to be had. Wouldn't you think with tourism down, they would offer some deals so the tourists that WERE there would spend their money?

Hi Marsha, I have been to Door County in the past and I also have property in the northwoods. I think that the most likely cause for the drop in tourisim is the price of gas. Also i thinj that once the leaves start turning, it will pick up again. I am looking forward to going on a few day trips this year and door county is one of them.
Hi Judy,
Gas prices could definitely have something to do with it. But I gotta tell ya, I saw quite a few trees ALREADY had turned brilliant red. They were very pretty, but it made me sad to think that it is happening so soon. This has been one crazy summer hasn't it???
We didn't get many day trips in this summer either. We have been so busy getting our daughter ready to leave for college. The summer flew by. I wanted to go and see some drum and bugle core competitions...never even got to one. Sigh.
