August 27th is the magic date...
My date is August 27th with Dr. Geocaris in Green Bay. I am not afraid of the surgery, I am actually quite excited. But what I am worried about is after the weight starts coming off..The excess skin. What type of exercises can I do to avoid this. I am 306# now, I have a pretty big frame (almost manly) I walk 4 miles a day but, I have arm fat and belly fat that is my main concern. Any post op exercise ideas would be greatly appreciated. And how soon after surgery can I start exercising, and or weight lifting?
Hi again Yolanda,
Wow, you can walk 4 miles a day??? That is fantastic. I cannot come even close to that plus I weigh about 30 lbs more then you. That is gonna give you a head start in recovery. Being fit is so important. I am pre-op so I don't know how your skin will be. A lot depends on your age, if your skin has been damaged by the sun, if you have visable stretch marks, etc. I'm 49 and my doctor said my skin will not shrink back much. I was expecting that. And like you, I dread what I will look like with this skin hanging from my body. But then I must remind myself that I am doing this for my health and the slimmer body is just a perk. I know plastic surgery is in my future.
Don't sweat the little stuff. Concentrate on your new lifestyle and follow your doc's instructions for using your tool. I'm sure you will do fine!!!

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I have a very supportive family that keeps me on the right track as far as physical activity is concerned. my mom was diagnosed with Diabetes a few years back and is on a massive health kick. Needless to say she has been my and my sister's motivation to keep moving. My sis is down to 326# from 365# just from the walking our mom makes us do. No excuses with her around. She will continue to be my motivation after the surgery as well. I am only 32, so I hope some of the skin will shrink. The tummy fat though, I think is here to stay....I kind of expected that though when my babies were being born 10 and 1/2 pounds.LOL...Oh well...like you said don't sweat the little stuff...Thanks again for the confidence boost.
