Nikki: I used Isopure that you can buy at GNC. It comes in fruit flavors and is more like a "koolaid" type drink than a shake. I did not like any of the shakes that were powder or milky tasting. GNC sells Isopure for about $3/bottle if I remember correctly. I remember it coming in Punch, grape, and orange. I would give that a try. It has a slight aftertaste but nothing compared to Ensure etc. As far as hair falling out and energy, you just had surgery and will be wiped out for a few weeks. It took me about 3 weeks before I felt like going anywhere. Your hair loss can be from the surgery and will also come from lack of protein down the road, so the more you can get in now the better. Once you start soft foods, beans (refried beans in particular) were my favorite and they have alot of protein. The first several weeks will be the hardest, but once you can start to add actual food to your diet, you will find that you will need less protein drinks and get more protein out of the foods you eat. Rule of thumb is eat your meat (protein) first at a meal. Good luck and hang in there. It WILL get better. Email with any questions. ([email protected]) Vicky

Nikki- Had my surgery 8/2 and I don't do the milky stuff either. Too gross for me. I bought a few of the samples of Nectar and have been very pleased with it. They have one that tastes like a pina colada, fuzzy navel, lemonade and tropical punch. Whey fruity also makes more like koolaid you can get these off the internet as samples at vitalady.com or bariatriceating.com... until you find one you like samples are the way to go. Try freezing it for an hour so it is slightly hard and scoop it out like a slush. That might help. Good luck. C

Hi Nikki!! Glad to see you posting. I thought about you this week and wondered how you were doing. (I was at the support meeting last week. My husband and I both had surgery) For the protien -- right now it isn't as "crucial" that you get the protein in. You need to get your liquids in first. And if you can incorporate the protein wonderful. If not -- work on it. I know Dr. Rebchook's diet plan is MUCH less restrictive than alot. Once you get to 2 weeks and you can add tuna, egg whites that will help you. I do have some protien puddings and stuff that I got from www.bettermd.net I have had them for a while from a previous diet that I was on. I would gladly let you try a few to see if you like them. I know they can be expensive -- but they have saved me 100% at this point. I am 5 weeks out this week. I do not get my protien in and am still workign on it. The stress of surgery is going to cause you to have no energy and also loose hair. Honey, your body just went threw H_ and back it is going to take you apprx. 3-5 weeks to gain that energy back. Feel free to email me -- I will give you call if you want. We are in Dodgeville. We are in Platteville often and if not...we can make that trip!! Gala Gardiner
