Wow, my first post! I've been seeing a Dr. for hypothyroid, pre-diabetes, & PCOS since May but she's down in Illinois near my old job and since I now work up in Madison. I'd like to find a new Dr. / PCP up in the Madison area who will be supportive of WLS as an near-term option. I have the usual co-morbidities, have a BMI in the super obese category (although I'm not sure what is so super about it!) and am currently insured by two insurance companies. BCBS of IL (PPO) and Unity (HMO). If you have been to or know of a primary care Dr. who is supportive of WLS, particpates in either BCBS or Unity and is located in Dane or Rock Counties (I live south of Madison) I would love to get their contact info.

Hi Jenny- I think I have the most wonderful Dr. in Madison. Her name is Elizabeth O'Brien and she is located at Associated Physicians by Hilldale Mall. I know she participates with Unity but am not sure about BC/BS. You could call the clinic at 233.9746. I have been seeing her for about 3 years and she has been nothing but supportive regarding the surgery. I had WLS on May 4th and she has backed me the whole way. She is very kind, sincere and takes as much time as needed for visits. She truly is the first Dr. I have ever had that made me feel like a person rather than a number. She is awesome!!! Good luck! I would definitely call her office. She is awesome!!! Good Luck! Heather

I am not sure if she take Unity -- but I know that the Dean Clinic has a Dr. that kind of acts as medical director for their bariatric program. Dr. Iseensee. She is at the Dean West Clinic. If I remember right w/a PPO you can go anywhere right?? I think the number is 824-4000. She is great doctor!! Gala

I had Isensee and she is supportive in the beginning, but blew me off after the surgery. When I had a bunch of complications she couldn't fit me into her schedule. I had Bariatric BeriBeri and it was left undiscovered till my sister an RN for Meriter figured it out. I had 2 physicians and my Surgeon from Dean that didn't know about it. One of those physicians not Isensee did try to do everything he could to help me. I was in a wheelchair for a month due to lack of concern by them. I don't recommend Isensee for the follow-up. You can choose whoever you like, but I wanted to let you know my experience. You may want to check w/the surgeons at UW Health. Garren/Gould they work together and should be able to recommend someone to you. They have a bariatric program also..Deb
