need help finding pre-op diet protein shakes
hello there,
I will be going on my 2-3 week pre-op diet shortly ( hopefully )
I went to GNC and the only shake they had that fit my dietican's
requirements was MYOPLEX LITE, I tried one last week, but I'm
allergic to something in there. GNC does not have any other shakes
that have fairly equal protein and carbs. I'm just wondering
what everyone else used PRE-OP??? and where you bought them.
I tried vitalady.com but hers are all very low carb for POST-OP
protein supplements, I need help with a pre-op shake- meal replacement.
thanks for your time,
sue
Sue,
I don't know what your surgeon requires. I just had to stick to anything considered whole liquid.
This included cream soups, cream of wheat, pudding, jello, skim milk, etc... I did try to sstick to the low fat, low carb varieties as much as possible. If protein is an issue, add 2 T of non-fat dry milk powder to your soup or pudding. 3 extra grams of protein.
GOOD LUCK

I didn not have any special diet before surgery - I was just not allowed to eat 12 hours before surgery - so pre op I am no help ... but Post Op I have found some really good protien shakes & bars ... the shakes are "Fruity Whey" & "ProPlete Gold" .. for the bars the brand is "Power Crunch Bar" and they are all good flavors. Hope that helps.
Hi Sue:
I am also pre-op, but haven't been required to go on a liquid diet. However, I've been doing alot of research for post-op protein drinks and have found this website that people on the main message board seem to like. It is http://store.bariatriceating.com/. They have a large variety of protein drinks, plus Susan Maria has done alot of research on the best tasting. You may want to check it out. There might be something there that meets your doctor's requirements. If you find something, hopefully you'll have enough time to place an order. I've heard they ship out pretty quickly.
Best of luck on your upcoming surgery!
Gail
