Hi all. I am slowly going thru the process for wls, and just have some questions for those who went to Wausua for the surgery. I don't have my 1st appt with Dr Johnson until October. So, it will be a loooong summer. I pray that someone will cancel and I get bumped up. Anyways, what should I expect that first day? How long after that do I have to wait for the surgery? I would appreciate any information. I am soooo anxious for this appt!!!!! Thanks all! Denise

HI DENISE: I HAVE MY FIRST APPOINTMENT WITH DR. JOHNSON ON JULY 19 TO START THIS WHOLE PROCESS. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO CORRESPOND WITH YOU AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT THE PROCESS IS. I AM VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS AS I AM JUST TIRED OF BEING FAT. I HAVE LIVED ALL MY LIFE AS A FAT PERSON AND AM READY TO SEE HOW THE OTHER HALF LIVES. I JUST WANT TO BE HEALTHY AND NOT HURT SO MUCH. I KEEP LOOKING AT SITES AT THE BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES AND CAN HARDLY BELIEVE WHAT I SEE. WHAT PROCEDURE ARE YOU LOOKING INTO HAVING? I AM LOOKING INTO LAPBAND FIRST AND LAP RNY SECOND BUT I WILL GO WITH WHATEVER THE DOCTOR THINKS IS THE BEST CHOICE. DEBBIE BROWN EAGLE RIVER WI

Denise, I had my surgery by Dr. Weiland on March 31st in Wausau. The best thing you can do is go in with a positive attitude. That and exercise and eat a lot of protein before your surgery are extremely helpful. My surgery was not painful, in fact I asked them to remove my morphine drip right away because I was not going to use it. the things to watch for after surgery are mood swings. These are kind of tough at times, but you can get through them. Coldness - I have a real problem with being cold. This I really cant explain, but it is not too bad either. Plan on doing a lot of walking as soon as you can after surgery. I took three walks the day I had my surgery. I was doing so well that Dr. Weiland let me go home the next day. On about the 2nd or 3rd day after surgery it hit me what I had done. It was a very scary but exciting feeling to know that I could do this for myself. I am now 12 weeks out and have lost almost 50 pounds (48 currently) and I feel fantastic. I can walk without problem, I am happier, and I have fulfilled a dream I had for a long time - I joined a Karate class. What worked for me is giving my self small rewards for reaching certain goals; 10 pounds, 25 pounds, etc. No matter what, know that this is the best thing you can do for yourself and you are worth it! If you would like to e mail me with any more questions, I am at [email protected] Anne
