Hi! I live in the Chicago area but my insurance is out of Wisconsin... BCBS. Any info on how they are to work with would be appreciated! Peggy

Peggy, I have Compcare Blue, which is a subgroup of BCBS. I was in contact with them prior to even looking into surgery to discuss if they cover this procedure. If you meet their criteria, the surgery can be approved. My actual approval once information was submitted was only 9 days! I think that is excellent! I have been very pleased with them throughout this entire process. I hope you also will be happy! Traci

Thanks for the reply. I did call them and they told me as long as medically necessary. I ask as BCBS Illinois seems to give people the run and around and has been in the news negatively recently due to it. So I'm hoping Wisconsin will be different. Peggy

Hi Peggy: I have BCBS of MN, which is actually billed out of Wisconsin. My dr's office was awesome on getting the information to the ins. company and knowing which ins. companies require which precertification requirements. If you're drs. office is up on things, you should have no problem. I was approved in 1 week, 1st request. Prior to submitting all the paperwork, I had to have a Stress test, pulminary test, psy eval, nutrition apt., and a sleep study, oh, and an apt. with the endrocrin dr. (diabetics). With all the documentation showing medical necessity, the insurance company had all the information they needed to make a speedy determination. P.S. By the way, my dr. was Nicholas Armstrong, out of St. Lukes, Milwaukee.

I have BCBS/Excellus and was approved in ONE DAY! Just waiting for my surgery date. I was worried about insurance approval after reading all the "horror insurance stories" on line, but with the correct information sent to the insurance company, approval was flawless on their end.
