I am about seven months postop... because you're seeing Dr. Eichelmann, would it be safe to assume that you're looking to have RNYGB with Dr.'s Garren & Gould... I did as well. I saw Dr. Eichelmann for my psych eval... Don't sweat it. It took maybe ten minutes. He had me explain what exactly is done during the surgery, made me demonstrate with my hand how big my pouch will be after surgery, why I wanted the surgery, etc. Basically, he wants to make sure: 1. You're sane, 2. You're gonna do this for the right reasons, 3. That you understand what it's gonna be like postop, and 4. That you understand that the weight isn't gonna mean a whole new world of opportunities without some effort on your part. Good luck, you're in good hands!

Thanks so much, knowing what to expect helps. I am having RNYGB with Dr. Gould/Garren. Right now all I am waiting for is insurance (no prob there GB is a covered benefit if 100# over ideal body weight) and should have that in under 2 weeks time. All I am really waiting on in no particular order is the psych evaluation and a date.

Hi. I saw Dr. Eichelmann for a psych evaluation on March 25th. My appointment was pretty much as described by one of the others *****sponded to your e-mail. He asked about my understanding of the surgery, the size of the pouch, etc. After we concluded our session, he asked me if I had any questions and I said yes. That I wanted to know if he would approve me for the surgery and he said that he would. So that was almost three weeks ago. I called Dr. Garren's office today to see if they've received Dr. Eichelmann's report yet - and they said they haven't received it yet. After Garren's office gets it, they'll be ready to submit all of the paperwork to my insurance (Blue Cross/Blue Shield). My only concern is lack of documentation of previous attempts of doctor supervised weight loss attempts. I'm hoping they won't require it. I've called the insurance office a couple of times to ask what all they require in order to approve the surgery, and they never mentioned previous weight loss attempts. But I have read where others seeking WLS had to provide this type of information. Well, here's to success to us both on the road to WLS and a better life. Karen
