Previous attempts at weight loss
I'm in the process of getting tests done for WLS. I've had my initial consultation (in February), will be having psych evaluation this week, and have a sleep study scheduled for April 2, if approved by my insurance (state workers BC/BS). I've talked to people at BC/BS and asked them exactly what they require in order to get approval for the surgery. They never mentioned documentation of previous attempts to lose weight. I don't have anything that's documented and to be honest, I haven't really tried any type of weight loss program in many years.
Sooooo, I'm just wondering if anyone else out there has been in a similar situation with diet history.
I am smo, have type II diabetes (insulin dependent), back problems, arthritis in knees, high blood pressure, etc. In short, I'm a mess.
Hi Karen!!
Congratulations on your choice to become a healthier YOU!! Sounds like you have done a lot of preparation and researching WLS, and I wish you the very best with your approval!!
My insurance was Compcare Blue HMO (a division of BC/BS). I am glad you have been in contact with your insurance as to exactly what you need to have in place. As for the documentation of previous weight loss attempts, I had my PCP write down everything that she has known I have tried in the past and document it in a letter to the surgeons office. That was enough for my insurance, and along with the other necessary documentation needed for WLS, I was approved in only 9 days!
I hope this helps and again, I wish you the very best! Please let us know when you are approved!!
