I am just starting the process for having WLS and am leaning towards having the Lap Band instead of the RNY. I would love it if there is anyone that can share their experience with the Lap Band... positive or negative. Thanks Darcy

Darcy, I am having the lap band put in the middle of May. This was just my decision and talking with others that have done the bypass surgeries they are doing well also. i think you need to do a lot of research on all types and talk to many different people that have had these surgeries. I am doing the lap band because it is less evasive and can be controled by filling the port or decreasing the fills this means that if I am really hungry I can go and have salution put in my port to make the band smaller which makes it harder to eat large amounts of foods. The weight lose might be a little slower but I also didn't get my insurance to pay for this and bypass surgery is about 40,000 or more and I don't have that type of money. I personally didn't want to be all cut up and parts moved or taken out because I had ovarian cancer and I can't afford to have my organs switched around just incase something comes up someday and I need to have parts removed for cancer reasons. Just look into all the different proceedures and talk to your doctors and they might be able to help you with your decision. Denise

Hi Denise! Yes.. I did opt for having the band as well. I am just not comfortable with the the Gastric Bypass or the risks that come with it. I have found much support and information at spotlighthealth.com and lapbandtalk.com. It sound like you have excellent reasons for choosing the band and in beating ovarian cancer... I know you are strong enough to do just about anything! Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post and wishing you the best with your banding! Darcy
