vitamins
I take vista vitamins. I started out with the chewables (5 a day) but now take the capsules (4 in the am and 4 in the pm). They are specifically made for the gastric bypass patient. You can read a little more about them as well as order them at www.bariatriceating.com
I take 2 Flintstones vitamins + iron a day, 2 ea. of the 500 mcg. sublingual B-12 supplements, and 3 Tums Ex a day. That covers all bases. The 2 biggest things are: 1. Take you tums and iron at different times of the day. If they're in the stomach together, the body can't absorb either. 2. Take your tums one each over a period of three hours so that your body can absorb all of the calcium in them.
Good luck!

Christine,
Vitamins are a very important part of the after-care of gastric bypass. Were told to take vitamins before now, seeing as you are almost a year post-op? I would discuss this with your surgeon or nurse practitioner asap to make sure you are taking what they recommend. Calcium, Vit B12, and a daily multivitamin are all very important. Sometimes Iron supplements may also be needed. Have they been checking any of your lab work post-operatively? Have you had a bone scan done pre- or post-op, as that is very important also because of the calcium absorption.
I hope this helps, but please follow up with your doctor. How has the first year gone for you as far as your weight loss and health? I would love to hear more.
