Psych evals.
Could any one please give me info on what to expect during a psych eval. Also any names of psychologists in the Milwaukee area that you would recommend. I need to have one requested by my insurance, but not sure who to got to. Need info soon. Surgery date is pending on results of eval. Any info would be appreciated. Thank-you
I also saw Dr. Pushkash, and was very pleased with his office and him. I was very nervous going into that, and he put me at ease. He deals with people who are having gastric bypass, so he knows what he is looking for. I had to take the MMPI test, which was kind of long but it was okay.
There is also a doctor at Froedtert what I do not remember his name (but my insurance would not cover it there).
Take care,
Traci
Hi Diane,
I just had my eval. 2 weeks ago. The Psychologists talked to me for a while asking me if I understand what the surgery is about, what I all tried to do through the years to losse weight and what results I got from them.
He asked me why I wanted to have surgery. Then I had to take 3 tests
took me 3 hours. They were all fill in the circle answers. a lot of the questions repeated. Some of the questions were strange, example: do you like to flirt, would you like to be a sports reporter thats just a couple of them. over all it was not bad to have done.
It it 2 weeks today that I took the tests and I am still waiting to here if the Psychologists got the report to my Doctor. I am in Green Bay so I can't help you with a Psychologists.
Good Luck

Hi there,
I had my Psych. Eval with Dr. Doug Lyman. I really liked him a lot. He deals with a lot of bypass patients. He wasn't a preferred doc in my PPO but I went to him anyway because he came highly recommended from a couple other post-op patients.
We talked for about 45 minutes about my decision to do WLS what I am expecting from it, etc. and then he had me do a self study. I had to read 160 statements and circle "false" "sometimes true" "usually true" or "always true" in response to the statment. It was really easy. The appointment took about an hour for me. I would highly recommend Dr. Lyman. If you have any other questions please let me know.
Good Luck!
Wow, I'm glad I didn't have to go through a lot of the Psych hoops you all did. I guess it really depends on the psychiatrist as to how far indepth they want to go. I seen Dr. Burr Eichelman at UW Hospital in Madison on Friday. My appointment was only a half-hour long. He primarily asked about my understanding of the surgery, my obesity history, my weight loss attempts, about my family support, etc. I didn't have to take any written tests, etc.
