My PCP thinks Im too young
Hello Everyone.... I had my appointment with my PCP today to see if she would give me a refferal for a surgeon(have to have it for insurance) and she told me I was too young for that. She said my weight is an issue but she thinks the only thing that works is Weigh****chers. I have been in her care during the course of doing weigh****chers 3 times now and getting to a certian point and not loosing anymore weight. She says that when it gets to that point then I should work out more but she is a skinny minny and doesnt understand that my legs just cannot handle my weight to do that! Does anyone have any suggestion on how I can still get approval from insurance without a refferal?? I know I shouldnt be giving up hope but this surgery now seems further away if ever!!!
I had the same problem...Im not sure if he didnt believe in it or what his problem was but he told me just to excercise and to eat right...well duh...do you think I was born yesterday. I found out that my insurance didnt need me to go through a doctor I went straight through the surgon. If not though I would deffinatly find another doctor.
Good Luck!
Hi Jenni. You have the RIGHT to request the referral to a bariatric program or surgeon for bariatric surgery. Your doctor does not have the right to refuse you the referal. If your doctor does refuse, contact the Patient's Rights department of the clinic/hospital. I do recommend also that you find a new primary care provider too. You'll want one who is more pro-active before and after surgery. My suggestion, ask some of the nurses/receptionist/secretary at your clinic who they recommend (someone who is proactive for their patients), you'll be surprised how willing they are got give out thier opinion.
