I'm a twentytwo year old female with cerebral palsy. On thanksgiving day I came home from the University of Wisconsin- Madison Hospital after having Gastric Bypass Surgery. Do to my C.P. I am confided to an electric wheelchair and have problems swallowing. The dietician put me on eight weeks of pureed food. I am jealous of you guys that got off of pureed food after a few weeks. I so miss a big bite of a juicey salad with all the toppings on it or french fries. I cannot bare weight on my legs. So I have to use a hoyer lift to get from bed to wheelchair to bathroom. There is no way to weigh me except for when I go to my rehab doctor every two months. So I won't be weighed again until the end of January. My family and friends are starting to notice small changes which makes me happy. But it's so difficult to not know how much weight I exactly lost. Everybody's giving me encouragement, but I feel alone. It would help so much if I could E-mail with someone who has gone through the surgery and that has some of the same feelings. Thanks for your time Chanon

Chanon: Sorry to hear that you are on liquids for 8 weeks. When I first had surgery, I had a feeding tube and was not able to put anything but ice chips into my mouth for 10 days. Then I had about 2-3 weeks of liquids. It was very hard, but now that I am loosing the weight, it is worth it. I know it is discouraging when you see others eat and you can't, but hang in there, it will get better. Not being able to get on the scale is most likely a good thing. When I was first out after surgery I weighed myself every day and sometimes twice. It was hard to keep positive when the scale did not move as fast as I wished it would. The fact that people are telling you that they can see it is a good thing. Keep up the faith and it will get better. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I am 4 mths post op and down almost 60#'s. You can read my story on my profile, I just updated it a few days ago. Take care and Happy Holidays.

Thanks for your reply. It's good to hear from someboody else, and that I'm not the only one with problems. Is liquid and pureed the same? I can pretty much eat anything that is high protein and pureed. I've done every kind of meat like steak, sloppy jo, pork chops and roasts. Are you on normal foods now, and hows it going? The holidays were a big test. But I think I pasted no vomiting and I didn't have the hersey squirts. Vicki what is your e-mail address? I can't get to your link from your web page. Hang in there Chanon
