New to the Madison area

Hi, I just moved to the Madison area from La Crosse and am 1 year post op... I was wondering if there were any support groups that meet in this area at all since I am not going to be able to drive back and forth to La Crosse all the time for my regular support group. Thanks, Laurie

Laurie- There is a support group that meets on the first Tues. of every month at Meriter Hospital's atrium (which is on the SW corner of Park and Regent). You can find info. on it and its physicians at obesity.surgery.wisc.edu (no "www." in the address.) Good luck! Josh

Josh, Thank you for the info.... I really appreciate it as the program at Gundersen Lutheran has a support group that meets once a month for pre and post ops and last month was the first month that I have missed it since starting to go at a month pre-op ( now 1 year post).... Laurie

Welcome to Madison Laurie, If you're looking for a more informal support group there is one that meets every third Tuesday of the month. I found out about it from a WLS chat group through yahoo.com. A lady who I was emailing with questions gave me information on this other great resourse. You can find the group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wls_wisconsin I had never signed up for a chat group before but it's a great! I don't think a location has been set for the next meeting (this past month was the first I went to), but if you post a message with questions you'll get plenty of replies. Hi Laurie, There are a few Madison groups. One is via Meriter Hospital the first Tue. of the month at the education center from 7:00-9:00, open to all WLS folks but held by Dr. Gould and Garren. The 2nd Tue. of the month is another one that is counseling type session that is held on Odana Rd. (contact me for more info) from 7:00-8:30. One the third Tue. of the month is my WLS Wisconsin Yahoo group meeting at East Towne Mall food court (we typically have a balloon at our table) from 6:00-8:00. It's a fun group. Thanks Tiffany, I will probably be showing up to one of the sessions I am just not sure when or which one because of my schedule as I just started my job and will be working until 8 after this week. Laurie
